Both, I mix it up every other day, one way wet, one day dry. I don't think it makes that much ofa difference though.

right now my basset gets 2 cups of dry mixed with a can of wet food. Every vet he has been to says he is the best lookin basset they have seen. since he gets into it right as I put it down, there is still enough crunch in the dry to help clean his teeth too.
Still waiting on getting my GSP. going to pick out the pup in November when I am home on leave. I'll most likely continue with the same food the breeder uses.

Don't support Diamond
don't feed that crap, they have killed more hunting dogs and don't care about anything other than their profit. They support nothing and use the cheepest stuff to make dog food available
To answer your question about water.
Myths, No known facts support anything about feed mixed with water.
Old timers say mixing water with feed makes them fuller faster. Especaily deer and coon hunters who want to get out as cheap as posible.
They love products like Diamond and Hunter special. $8 a bag sounds great.
Spend some extra funds and give your dog something that will help keep it alive and perform well.
Just think you could eat off the 1 menu and perform how well for how long?

As an additional comment, it really depends on the dog and the circumstances surrounding that dog as to how much to feed it. I feed Black Gold 26/18 and my dogs do very well on it. I've tried maybe a dozen or so dogfoods and there are several they do well on. My beagles are run about 3 hrs. at least every other day.

Right now (in the summer) I'm feeding 1.25 cups/dog, although I have 2 that are a little taller and get about 1.5 cups. In the winter when were hunting 1/2 and full days, 4 days/week, they eat closer to 2.5 cups/day b/c they're being run hard and it's cold (their bodies use more calories to stay warm). Our labs are on free feeding and they are in good condition, but if they weren't active, they'd be fat.

Euk was maybe the best food i ever fed. The performance 30/20 worked well. Dogs could tolorate the heat and the cold. not to mention the easy clean-up. little hard turds
I will never buy anything from them again. They have Supported HSUS which in turn supports PETA
Pur Pro Plan is what i feed and recomend it is a 30/20 which performs as well or better than anything you can buy.
Pur has not killed a dog yet even with there cheaper foods.
They also support Field Trials across the board everything from horse-back pointer stakes to retriever and spaniel trials.
You can get away with feeding a 50lbs dog a 16oz drink cup a day
1 1/2 when hunting or working
Here is what i found to be the perfect combination
Buy a barrel with a sealable lid
(This will keep all bugs and critters out and the feed dry)
Mix a 50 lb bag of Pur. DogChow cost $17
with a bag 44 lbs Pro Plan cost $37
Most 55 gal barells will hold 2 of each
(mix well)
use a metal coffee 10 oz can to measure feed
It will hold 2 16ozdrink cups of feed
Now your dogs will not only get the good feed and nutrition they need, but also they can eat enough to feel full and be happy
any time you switch feeds ittakes 10 daysto see a difference

If you have one dog try this if you may
This is what my Grandfather and Dad fed before there was a quaility dog food. feeds 1 dog for a week

3 lbs ground beef
2 lbs rice
1 gal can of veg-all
add some water
cook in big pot
keep in fridge
add table scraps i mean everything all week
Don't forget the bacon grease, and gritts
lots of trouble, but the freshest food and best stuff any dog will ever eat
