Innotek CS-16000 collar question
 

Anyone ever use or own an Innotek Model CS-16000 training collar? I was wondering how well it works. I just bought one from a friend, adn it says range up to 1 mile, but only with a special antenna. How do I know If it has this antenna? Do they hold up well? Do the batteries last? What are your experiences and thoughts on this? Thanks.

If you have the antennae that is aboout 4 inches long, then the range is about 1 mile. Over all function is fine, and 3 dog capability is nice. You may want to add a resistor to the collar because the lowest level (1) can be too hot for many dogs. Innotek tech can tell you which ohm resistors to get ( at Radio Shack etc). Personally, I hate anything rechargeable. I've had to buy the special rechargeable batteries almost every year because they were getting a memory and short/ undercharging. There is nothing more frustrating, than being in the field and having a transmitter go dead. Unfortunately, all of them use either rechargeable collars or transmitters nowadays. Programming mutiple collars is a little tricky with it to. If I were to do it over, I would go Tri-tronics. At least some of their transmitters have replacable battery packs ( can carry spare in field).

I had the 16000 with the beeper for a couple years. They just did not hold up at all. I send them back for repairs at least 10 times. The custumer service was great, exept they try to get a shipping fee if you complain you can get that waived. I use Dogtra now, and I think they are great. Tritronics is also a very good coller. I think this is one of those things that you get what you pay for. Just my thoughts.

InnoTek isreferred toby many as InnoJunk, due to their poor reputation. Buy a Dogtra or TT.

I have heard they aren't that great, but I figured for $100 for a $389 collar, I could use it till it crapped out. I don't have any extra money right now, or I would have bought a Tri Tronics. At least I know now that I will be buying a different one, but not this season. Thanks for the info.

Don't feel too bad because if you didn't pay much you may have come out ok for what you need it to do.

In reality though, in buying e-collars, one constant remains pretty much true-"anything but innotek". I'll throw in anything but innotek, cabelas or redhead but regardless innotek is junk.

They won't repair Innotek collar (wonder why?) but will allow you to use it as a trade in.

I'm replacing a 10 year old Innotek (yep, it lasted that long and was an "okay" collar. Do any of the e-collar mfgrs make one that takes rechargables that aren't proprietary (ie AA or AAA)? It would certainly be the best way to go for dog owners, but would cut into their profits, so I'm guessing not.
