new book in English for training tracking dogs

This was posted by Andy Bensing president of United Blood Trackers on a tracking dog forum. I thought there might be some on here that might be interested.

The book, Working With Dogs For Deer, written originally in Danish by Niels Sondergaard has recently been translated and published in English and is now available here in the United States at the United Blood Trackers' online store. This is the first european book on blood tracking that has ever been translated into English. Many of the the people here on this board have John Jeanneney's book, Tracking Dogs For Finding Wounded Deer and according to John This new book makes an excellant companion. Here is a brief discription John wrote about Sondergaard's book:

"Working with Dogs for Deer by Niels Sondergaard is a Danish book translated into English for deer hunters and dog handlers. More specifically it is about using dogs to find wounded deer and wild boar with the methods used in Denmark.
In Sondergaard’s book there is much information about advanced dog training and testing that we can use here in America. Some of the methods used to handle dogs on a natural blood line are a bit different. The description of the officially recognized tracking dog service, which is legally mandatory in Denmark, offers new perspectives, which we North Americans have never even considered. The use of tracking dogs in Denmark, as in the rest of Europe, is accepted as standard procedure in big game hunting
Naturally the book does not deal with bow hunting and all of the special situations that arise in North America, but it is a book well worth having, even if you have read Tracking Dogs for Finding Wounded Deer.. If you are already infected by the tracking dog fever, buy Sondergaard’s book!"

Ken, Excellent post! And Rob I also agree with you.....

Blood tracking for wounded game is in my opinion a very important issue. It is illegal in my state and in many states. So sad because my educated guess is that there are those deer that for whatever reason are not found....it would be so easy to have several tracking dogs recover them in 1/4 of the time it would take a human. Kudos to the organization and what they stand for!! Thank you again Ken for bringing it up on the board. :) I am going to their website now....

Christine, It looks like Virginia may be passing a law to allow tracking dogs in the near future. Hopefully this will spure a group to get motivated to push for it in West Virginia. This is were UBT can help. We have many members who have been instramental in gettting the laws changed in their state. So they can give advice on how to go about it. Then when the time comes and if needed UBT can put on demonstrations for lawmakers / DNR personel / or other individuals who you wish to see a dog work. The other thing we can do is give expert testimony or answer question before the boards that will be making those proposals.
