Irish Setters

Any one have any experience with these. Would love to get one but heard they need alot of room to run. Would mainly be a house/yard dog with minimal hunting(unfortunately).

Yes, I work with them commonly as i own 1 pair of them. I have the field line so for your situation I wood recommend a show line. But they come with a high price tag and yes they do require lots of room to run..If you need anymore info please feel free to let me know.. Here is one of my hunters..

As a sportsman and bird dog lover. I think that no breed of hunting dog should ever go to a home were they will not be hunted. The only exception to this should be rescue dogs. They should be spayed or neutered and never allowed to breed or be registered.
That is why the Irish Setter was almost completly lost.
Show dogs should be foo-foos or the akc/ukc should require that all sporting breeds prove themselves in the field before being allowed to compete as a show dog.
Breedfor color you get a colored dog. Breed for Hunting and you get a Hunting dog.

Sorry, but a show dog is a foo -foo and a field dog is a hunting dog. That is the way it is although some shows may hunt they are bred to dance around a show ring... You are correct in saying that the Irish was almost completely lost. When you look at the hair length as well as size it is easy to tell the hunters from the shows. Although not all bred for hunting will prove to be hunters either...
