Started or Finished English Pointer Wanted

Hey guys I am looking to purchase a started or finished English Pointer to hunt with. I have bred and trained my own labs for about 17 years but I want to try a new breed and don't have the time, place or inclination to train anymore. My son is starting to hunt and I want to be able to have him hunt behind a good dog. Anyone know of any? Please let me know, [email protected] and thanks!

I don't know of any right off hand but I would check out the outdoor news. They usually have a variety of dogs in there.

since you are in PA you might want to check w/ Warriorsmark kennels. i got my english pointer pup from there. and sometimes they have started dogs also. i was just up there today, so i wish i would have saw this before then i could have asked them for you. they are nice people and have great dogs.
also i know a guy who is training an english setter that he is going to sell as a started dog and that dog is from that kennel and has a great bloodline.
good luck to you and keep us updated.

A little word of caution, perhaps un-needed. There is going to be a big difference in the way a pointer from field trail lines compared labs, like Miller lines hunt. Overall, I say that english pointers are the most birdy dogsaround with the most natural pointing instinct but FT'ers like them bold and independant. If you get such a dog, it's going to take you acouple ofyears for the dog to learn tothe 'ideal' range to huntfor the cover type.

english pointers

We have both started and finished english pointers available. We breed primarily for field trialing however, we recognize early on if the dogs have what it takes or not to win and if they do not, we use them for hunting and try to place them with a hunter/handler that is looking for what the dog has to offer.

***LOL! Why is it that newbies seem to go back umpteen years to find a thread to post on?
