Sorry but More puppy questions

I bought my puppy on tuesday and he will be 6 weeks on friday. He has had two shots and two wormers so far and i have the third for the third dose of wormer. When i got him he was 10 pounds 14 ounces. The mother was a yellow lab probably 40 pounds and the father was a black lab probably 95 pounds. He has some big paws on him so he will probably get big. don't know how much more i can tell ya about the little guy. Hoyt is his name. OK i know i am going to be asking a lot of questions but here they go....

1. For now should i let him bark and then try to quiet him down later?

2. He is in the biting stage right now and when he bites me i curl his upper lip on his canine. Is this right?

3. He will be 6 weeks on friday.... anything else i should know at this age?

Have you been crate training him? I just picked up my French Brittany a week ago, he was 7 weeks, so I have been going through much the same. Although mine doesn't bark.

On the biting thing I have just been saying "Ouch" kind of luder like it is painful and he stops. I was reading somewhere they learn not to bite hard from their littermates so since he was taken prematurely from that stage, you have to become that with him.

The first thing I would do would be to go back to the breeder and smack the crap out of him for selling a puppy before it was at least 7 weeks old. [:@][:@]

I own a barker but personally, I wouldn't do anything at this stage. A pup at this age can do no wrong. Praise what he does right. Barking can be corrected by a bark collar or other methods later.

He's just a puppy and playing like a puppy. I'd say let him. I seen dogs that were raised by people who won't play with puppies. Many just don't know how to interact/play with other dogs because they've never learned or been taught.

Lots.Get a good puppy book. Get him used to routines now. Socialized him.

Very true it is illegal here to sell a pup at this age! Your pup still needs others to play with so, if he is chewing on you or barking a little that would be normal. So let him get a little age on him before trying to correct him of this.

Two things I always try to stress to my puppybuyers are:

1. Crate training; there's a pretty good book called "How to Housebreak Your Dog in Seven Days" by Shirlee Kalstone. Dirt cheap on Amazon. I don't know about the 7 days part, but it's a good guide to crate training.

2. Socialization; that's really important. I would suggest taking him to a puppy kindergarten class. I feel the socializtion is important enough that I have taken all our dogs thru the class. I could teach the class, but go strictly for the socialization.

Good luck with your new puppy!

Oh, and about what Doc E said about the breeder........ Doc E is WAY too polite.

Here in FL they have to be 8 weeks or older and have a certificate of immunization.
