RE: Lets see Your Dogs On Point
Look what happened to the irish setters. Back in the 50's there were a considerable amount of field irish setters. But lack of interest, couldnt compete with pointers, and with only show setters available, they nearly died out. If there were another strain of field irish setters, they wouldn't have the problem.
This is true that most have been ruined and some had to be imported to bring back the hunt. I like the Irish and wouldn't change it for the world. They are full of energy and for some if they do not have the room or the place to let them run frequently they wouldn't suite you very well. Mine will work close if you want them to, or they will run out big. They are smart and capable to do both. I was hoping to get some sort of a training run in but, the weather has been very strange up here. Last week it was in the 40s and this week it's been hitting around 90 degrees. So I took Rusty up back in the field for about 30 minutes (94degrees out)and he did great hunting around and never lost a single command. He has not been out at all after the fall hunting season ended. Here is a couple photos I will share. I held him back to around 30 yards in this run. |
