training an adult beagle

I have the opportunity to get an adult female beagle for free. I'm probably going to get her anyway just because she's a pretty dog and would make a fine buddy in my lonesome apartment but I'd like to try to get her running rabbits. Nobody can give me a straight answer on how old she is so I can't provide that information. I just wanted to ask how possible it was before I wasted a lot of time and effort on just confusing the ol' gal.

Also, is it possible to make a rabbit dog and a deer blood tracker out of the same animal?

PS - I'm a total newbie to this, please be kind :) and also note this is an entirely different dog than the one mentioned in my last post. That little guy fell through:(

I wouldn't try to make a rabbit dog and a track dog out of the same animal.

Just my experience. If you have a really good rabbit dog and take him out to track a wounded deer (I'm guessing beagles by the way) then he could tear off on the first scent of bunny he gets.

JMO do what you want with your dog.

RE: training an adult beagle

well i purchased a female beagle when she was 8 weeks old.Let her out in the yard 2 months after i had her and came back out to get her and she was gone, someone stole her.Well about 1.5 later i was driving by my nieghbors house and looked in there yard and there she was and i knew it was her because when i got to her she had the same knot on her belly and she had the same markings around her eyes.Well i pulled up and got her and took her home and every time i would try to contact my neighbors they would avoid me.But any way i took her out and started training her and she turned out to be a great rabbit dog.And they kept her as a house dog the whole time.to say the least she is spoiled, but i would not trade her for the world.GOOD LUCK
