RE: TN Lady looking for love
ORIGINAL: NEBHNTR I WOULD BET IF IT WEREN'T FOR BACKYARD BREEDERS THAN 90% OF DOGS PROBALLY WOULDN'T EVEN EXIST RIGHT NOW! ??? Including the 90% that are being put down in the shelters. I couldn't live with myself if the puppies I was breeding were ending up in shelters. RUSTY YOU MAKE VERY GOOD POINTS, BUT THAT IS ONLY WHAT IFS. WHAT IF YOU LEAVE 5 MIN LATER THAT USUAL AND THEN YOU HAVE A ACCIDENT, WHAT IF YOU TAKE A RIGHT TURN AND GET SIDE SWIPED ON WAY TO WORK, WE COULD ALL THINK OF A LOT OF BAD WHAT IFS!!! If you're going to start breeding, you darn well better be playing the "what if" game!! That's another way of saying responsible breeding. I have invested a LOT of money in "what if" and every now and then that "what if" will save a puppies life. Of course if losing a puppy or two every now and then is not a concern, then that's a whole different topic. WHAT IS THE MAIN REASON THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO BREED YOUR DOG? The correct answer to that, according to all breed clubs, is to try to improve the breed through responsible breeding. Please don't contribute to the problem those of us involved in rescue have to deal with on a daily basis. We currently have two rescues in our home that we are working on rehoming; one from a puppy mill, the other from a BYB. They are both very nice dogs, but whoever they go to are going to have to deal with some potential health issues. |
RE: TN Lady looking for love
Folks, I appreciate all the kind advice and you're all welcome for the interesting topic I started, you all seem to be really enjoying it.
Now a little personal info. I raised pugs for a few years and quit when my first child was born. I raise chickens and currently have 92000 birds minus what has died to date.(yes that's 92 thousand) I also work for my brother and dad who are currently running 500 to 800 head of cattle (together). I milk and raise Alpine goats and am getting into Boer cross. I have a little experience in the animal world. I have apologized for the "up north" comment to docE I am a little bothered that no one has asked why I wanted to breed the dog. I understand your passion for dogs, I just don't share it in the same way I guess. I will be reluctant to ask another question. |

RE: TN Lady looking for love
And today I was just going to say that TN lady hasn't chimed in.
Fantail, this is the problem I have with e-communication. I mention things thinking everyone else ona forumknows my status or what level I am onjust asmy freinds would. Then they say things that seem a bit of a stretch from where I started. So now I know better or have learned or "Been Schooled" to start with some backround and then go into my question. Now the readers havea little moreto go on. That way you would have gotten some potential studs instead of advice. Don't be too harsh on 'em, they were just trying to help. Best of luck with all your endeavors. PS Can I come hunting on your place!?!?!? |
RE: TN Lady looking for love
I don't think that the information I gave would have changed the results because after all by definition I am a BYB even though I didn't know that term existed a month ago. When I raised the pugs I was in it for the money and nothing else. That is usually why a farmer raises something.
PS What do you want to hunt..... chickens or cows. Other than dove and the occasional goose hunt I mainly hunt public land. The cattle are in feed lots and the feed lots are in mud and the mud doesn't make a good place to hunt. |
RE: TN Lady looking for love
Was hopping for Upland Birds and Varmints! No Quail and Pheasant?
|
RE: TN Lady looking for love
Tennessee doesn't have a pheasant season and as hard as it is to find quail around where I live they probably shouldn't have a quail season. We do ,however, have a lot of coyotes.
