all around dog?

What would be a good breed of dog for upland, waterfowl and tracking deer?
Thanks Mallard Stalker,

Deutsch Drahthaar, Deutsch Kurzhaar, pudel pointer, small musterlander....basically any of the continental breeds tested in the JGHV are expected to point, do water work, and blood track.

Yeah, just about any dog can be a good family dog. Even the dreaded killer (sarcasm implied) drahthaar is a good family dog. I have one draht and another on the ground now -- Getting him in about seven weeks!!!!

I have an old shorthair too - the best house dog you could EVER have. My young drahthaar bitch is a good house dog too. How many dogs do you know that you could let have run of the house at 9 months old, leave her alone for hours on end, and not come home to destroyed stuff?

Check on Weimaraner's, they are very good all around dogs. We just got us one because of that reason. I will use her mainly for tracking deer after the shot but also wanted a good bird dog. Plus they are very good dogs to keep in the house and have around children, other than knocking small kids over from bumping into them while playing but that is with any medium to large playfull dog. Heres a pic of ours.

My current golden retriever has retrieved dove, a couple of ducks and trailed his 1st deer2 weeks ago and took mestraight to her. Very tempermantal and extremely smart. This is my 3rd one and I'venever had one that didn't love everyone it came in contact with. They do shed some hair if you want to keep them inside. Mine only comes inwhen my wife is gone and oncold nights. My male weighs 60lbs. I won't let him get much over that. Something to consider. I've been in houses with 80 and 90lb labs that were just big to be an inside dog...especially when they come and flop on you. Good luck on whatever you get.

I have a 6 month old pudelpointer. He's a great house dog. Was very easy to housetrain. Very friendly. Bugs our cat a bit, but hasn't eaten it; at least not yet.

He does get pretty excited when someone new comes into the house, but mellows out fairly quickly.

I think any of the dogs Alaska mentions would make great house dogs.

Good luck,
