What is the best deer dog out there?

What is the best dog out there as far as tracking wounded deer or dead deer? I would like to get one.

You should check out Weimaraner's. We just got one last week and I will be using her for mainly tracking wounded/dead deer. They are supposed to be very good dogs for this and also very good bird dogs. They are just an all around good hunting dog but they are also indoor family dogs as they do not take good to an outdoor kennel life. If you are looking to keep the new dog inside you should check out the Weimaraner breed. I have done alot of research on these dogs so if you have any questions about them I will do my best to help you with anything. Note, I am not saying these are the "best" deer tracking dogs but they are very good at it and have everything else in a hunting dog I was looking for. Hope this helps. By the way, they are also very beautiful dogs and love kids and other animals.

I think any dog with a good nose can find wounded deer if trained to. But, I would never be teaching my bird dog to do this. As, I wouldn't want my bird dog looking for deer instead of birds. That's my 2 cents worth.

In Georgia we would run Beagles. They kick out the deer but don't get'em running as fast as a larger hound.

The dogs are trained to follow a blood trail NOT to be searching for a hot deer track to chase. The Continental breeds have been doing bird work, fur work, and blood tracking for a couple of hundred years or more.

It can be done with the right trainer and the right dog.
