A German shorthair would be a great dessert dog, some say they handle the heat even better than an english pointer. A Brittney would be okay as well. A Vizla is another choice that would work.

A lab? Perhaps a yellow or lighter collered one would suffice?

If you really want unique, there are dogs like the Braque De Burboinois that are rare but should do the job.

One thing you may want to consider; if you're going to do alot of waterfowl and dove, there is going long periods of just sitting and waiting. Some GSP breeders have been breeding them for purely upland game. Hence, firm training is going to required to make them stay still. Pay attention to the parents when selecting from a litter. Like all hunting dogs, some are so wound up and some can be mellow if need be.

I like the Irish Setters but finding a good hunting line is hard to
find. I know from researching prior to my Irish that Texas had only
the show or can do all. Nothing I would of wanted. They are said
to be able to hunt birds and can duck hunt with you to if trained
right. And here I was laughed at when I first got mine but, not
anymore. Here is a pic of playing around in the water.

Try a Chessie. They are hard working and usually bread by hunter. It would be rare if you got a bad one.

I thought you were talking about a bird dog?
Doves and Ducks do not require a bird dog, they are shot in the air and are Retrieved
Bird Dogs are dogs that find ground birds such as Quail. Grouse, and Pheasants.
In TX Wild Quail is King.

Maybe a Pudelpointer will fit you well.

A lot of people have a lot of different dogs, and you come on here and call some breeds junk. Here I got one for you. Its 19 deg. There is a 15 mph wind, you broke ice all the way out to the open water. You wouldn't be calling a lab junk on this day.You need to read Doc E's quote. Fits you good

If you Want a Bird Dog for TX you will need something with a lot of go and a great nose Like a Setter or Pointer. alot of ground to cover.Specific Breeds are for Specific Jobs you will not find a TX Wild Bird Hunter with Junk Like Labs,Pudelpointers? for bird dogs
if you want something that hunts closemaybee you should just walk and find the birds yourself

My brother-in-law has a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, wonderful water dog, great nose on uplands too. I just lost my lab and I'm going to try a Chessie.

I think Dale is having a lot of fun pulling ya'lls leg and trying to push your buttons. If you think he's serious, go to his website and take a look at what he considers trophy whitetail deer. Too funny! Dale, you're killing me!!!
