Strange thing happened to my pup today. The weather was fairly bad today and there wasn't many dogs at the local dog park where I take her to run. So, a new person comes along with his black lab. Seems fine. The lab was wanting to play with my dog. Both tails were wagging, running, playing then 5 minutes into it all of a sudden the lab turned vicious. Teeth flashed, growling, the lab pinned my dog down. My dog was welping and also flashed teeth trying to get free. This was definitely notplay fighting. I had trouble pulling the lab free. The ownerfinally pulled his dog free and he leashed it but still wanted to get at my dog with his tail wagging!

My dog doesn't have dominant bone in her body. Every other aggressive dog gets along fine with her. But this is the strangest behavior I've seen in a male dog. Could it be owner abuse or dog has psychological problems?

Wow, that is strange Mite, usually males will fight males or females will fight females or unless he tried to create puppies then the female may snap at him. But, this I believe is very odd behavior and most likely a pyschological problem or the owner has been training it to fight. Some peoplewill try teaching their dog most anything.If that is the case maybe that is why the tail was still wagging ?The dog thought that it was doing what the owner wanted it to do ?

That is usual for a male to attack a female, who knows why. As for the tail wagging, tail wagging in a dog only means the dog is excited.

I disagree with that usually a male only attacks a female, if the female is the leader of a pack, or over a dog bone, whatever !This is clearly not the case ! Black Labs are also supposed to be gentle and not aggressive.
So clearly in my opion there is something wrong with this picture. I've also had a black lab that lived for seventeen years and she was not aggressive
towards any other dog. None of the labs I've been around were aggressive like this either. With the average life span of a black lab being around nine years I might know a little bit about them. Yes, I still believe this to be a phsychological problem of some sort.

Who knows?

I know my drahthaar is sweet as can be with some people. Others for some reason, she simply will not let near her and makes quite a show of it.

Bottom Line. She flat does not like EVERYBODY, and some she sees as a threat and tries to warn protect me. What triggers her behavior? I don't really know, although I am trying to figure it out to avoid obvious problems in the future.

But this dog seemed friendly. He even came up to me to pet it. The dogs were simply playing. Something snap and the dog became very aggressive pinning my dog down like you see in police dogs taking down a criminal. It went from being totally normal to aggressive tonormal again in seconds. Thereissomething seriously wrong in that dog.

That's why I picked a female and the smallest in the litter. She'll never be the aggressor. Usually she likes to be chased and sometimes other dogs will automatically join in and be aggressive (chase instinct) and what she will do is run straight into the thickets where other dogs won't follow. But yesterday, it was so sudden it even caught her off guard.

The only experience I've had like that is my retired brit (very arthritic and VERY grouchy) attacking my wife's female boxer. He has always been a very dominant dog in my kennel, but had never attacked a female until then. Another of my males attacked a female that didn't honor point, but I think that is very different.
