How old is your dog? What have you taught it so far?

For puppies, there is Smith's puppy development. If it's older, then Delmar Smith has a series of videos. Bill West just recently produced one. I've also talked to Lou Gelber about making a simple one for the Llewellin setter club. There is also Wolter's video. There are alot of good videos out there try to pick one method. Picking parts of each method is fine but sometimes they just don't jell.

Books also have good information. Read Delmar Smith's book cover to cover and you'll have a understanding of the process. But there are holes in it which it doesn't cover.

That's where a professional or knowledgeable dog person comes in real handy. They are trained to read a dog, what's its thinking. What to do in almost every situation. You can gain much more knowledge being around someone who knows dogs. Join a club. Check http://www.americanfield.com/for setters under field trials for a variety of hosting clubs. Even if you're not entering field trials, alot of knowledgeable people are there. I joined an affiliated NSTRA club just for the training sessions that they give free. It's been great.
