Jagd terriers
 

anyone have any experience with these dogs? I always used beagles but am thinking of getting one since mine are getting older and amhunting more then rabbits and deer. do they have any health problems that anyone has heard of

Ive never had one but encountered a few.
They can be described as pirahas on legs.:D
The ones I have met have done great earth work on badgers as well as fox. They are gaining in popularity here due to growing wild boar populations and they are indeed hard enough to get pigs going and yetfamily dogs but dogs are that if you ask me.

I have read they are the one of the toughest dogs pound for pound in the world. A virtual tasmanian devil on four legs. If you are going to get one I would really ask a lot of questions.

thats rigt! i hawe3 jagd terriers, and this is irondogs, they dont giveupp a hunt as long as their hart pumping!

rocken`roll dogs! but it can be mutch wounds on the dogs when they hunting becaus they totaly crayzy.

Earthwork, short drives, tracking and retrieving,baying wild boar and badgers, orall of the above?:)

All that is been said so far is right on. These little guys hunt anything they come across. Not sure how they are to train on a single animal. They would find a hog but also deer, rabbit, etc. They bark at any scent they come across and will try to find what left it. If you don't like a loud, mouthy dog they aren't for you. We used them on hogs but had to quit. They have no idea how small they are and we got tired of broken legs and cut up dogs. They are very friendly and personable and also HIGHLY active dogs.

I use my Jagd for hunting hogs. Mine does not open or bark on scent trail at all. She is very gritty to game animals but very affectionate to people and excellent with other dogs. She has exceleent scenting abilities as well, and see no reason they would not be great for hunting any sort of game. I do not believe that the terrier breeds are for everybody, they require alot of daily exercise and attention or can become terrors and aggressive. I also hunt Jack Russel and Airedale terrier crosses. These hunting bred terriers are not ment to be back yard pets, they need to be worked in order to make them good dogs. Researching bloodlines before buying any breed of dogs will help determine what temperment of dogs you are going to end up with. The Jagds temperments and traits vary from bloodline to bloodline just as any breed does. Some are smooth coated and others very hairy. Some may bark on trail and other silent. Some are 14lbs and some get to be 28lbs. Research from individual breeders will help get the right dog for your needs.
