training help?- minature beagle
 

hey guys i'm new to this forum but anyways i have a couple questions... i love to rabbit hunt but i never used a dog... last week i bought a minature beagle female.. i named her sassy.. she is 3 and a half months old , i went hunting today and let her tag along..and i was wondering a few things..
1st. how old should i let her get to start seriously training
2nd. wat should i do for training i was thinking just taking her on walks and trying to get her to sniff out tracks and maybe shooting a rabbit and letting her play with it or giving her the tail to mess with.
3rd. whats a good feed to use?
4th. ANY POINTERS ABOUT TRAINING THEM

Also her parents are very good hunting dogs and the guy i got her from raises tons of them... So i would think its breed into her pretty hard..

I have owned beagles since I was about 12 years old. Where I live there are a lot of rabbits and the best way I have found to train a beagle dog is just to carry them. If they have any hunt in them they will pick it up pretty quick. Its better to have 2 at a time. They will learn how to work togather. Beagles are very easy to train if they have hunting in there blood. If you really want to seriously hunt rabbits you would be better off to buy a dog that is already running and pair it up with your pup. If the pup doesnt show any interest in about 1 month of training its probably not going to be very good anyway. I dont mean running the hair off of one. Just putting there nose on the ground and looking. If a rabbit jumps up in there face and they dont follow even just a little way get rid of it. Hope this helps.
