HOT SPOTS, need information
Willie, our yellow lab, has developed two large hot spots. one on the side of his head below his ear, the other on the back of his head between his ears. it started on sunday as a small spot on the side of his headabout the size of a quarter, i used neosporin andhydrocortisone on thembutby thrsdy morning i had to take him to the vet. Vet said they can be caused by anything, bug bite, skin irritaion, heat & humidity, there is no one answer. anyway they gave him a cortizone shot, have him on antiobiotics and have shaved the areas affected.
does anybody have any other advice in dealing with this type of condition? any other treatment to ensure they will heal properly, more quickly? and lastly how to avoid them from happening again. any information is appreciated, my advice to anyone who thinks their dog may have the beginnings of a hot spot is to take them to the vet immediately. i have never seen Willie more miserable than he was yesterday. |
RE: HOT SPOTS, need information
My older dog had one in the same spot below his ear, the vet said it was because his ears were bothering him. The vet gave me some stuf to treat the ear and the spot went away.

RE: HOT SPOTS, need information
Happy Jack makes a salve for this that we had to use on a dog years ago. Worked great.

RE: HOT SPOTS, need information
go to www.lcsupply.com and look in the first aid section there is a product called EMT Gel I keep a tube in my hunting vest and have used it on some pretty deep good cuts for my GSP. It helps promote healing and seals the wound. It works well and I have used it wherestiches may have been in order but the EMT Gel did the trick!
