Any boykin spaniel owners out there
Just wanted to hear from anyone using Boykins for duck hunting. I have a male that is great in the field for pheasant but I am not sure if the breed is up to waterfowl retrieves.

I hope to see some responses on this as I'm interested
in the Boykin. Did you get yours from a hunting breeder? From what I've read they have been used alot for duck hunting in the southeast. People that liked a smaller dog in a canoe or small boat. Does your dog point pheasant orflush & retrieve? PKnTX |

I got mine from a private owner in Wisconsin which I located thru a member of the Boykin family. It was very difficult to find a dog. I got very lucky. My dogs father was the Boykin roustabout champion and the mother came from the Boykin family and has been inseveral dog magazines. He points pheasants but retrieves wounded runners once the gun sounds. Only one in ten Boykins will point I am told. They look cute but belive me they have a desire to hunt and retrieve that is unbeliveable. You could not get a better family pet. Mine is a male he just follows me everywhere I go. I am not sure if he could retrieve a duck in choppy water etc.

Interesting that you mentioned turkeys. We cannot use dogs to hunt turkeys in PA but nearly everytime I take him for a walk in the woods my dog is loacating and breaking up turkeys. I always have said his nose is tuned in to turkey smells.
