Moving to Georgia
 

I'm originally from Minnesota but will be transferring jobs down to northwest Georgia in January. I know I will have to give up those big walleyes and whitetails but what kind of wildlife can I expect?

Birddog78, You can expect some of the finest deer hunting in the country. Last year two Boone and Crockets killed in state, not to bad...30 Pope & Youngs and 50 plus deer killed that scored more than 150.
The heavest deer on record was shot in southern Georgia in the 60's. It field dressed out at 385lbs.
Hunting land that is state owned.
Tens of Thousands of acres that is bow only.
Seasons that last for months not weeks.
More tags than you need to feed a small army.
Bear hunting.
Grouse hunting in the area your moving to.
The world record largemouth bass came from Georgia in 1932.
22.4 lbs. caught by George Perry. The record still stands.
Trout fishing that is awsome on the fly rod all over the northern part of the state.
Walleye fishing and northern pike in many areas.
Long seasons.
Only a few hours from some really top quality
deep sea fishing.

I'm from NW GA as well. What town will you be moving to. I am at school in Carrollton right now, but I am from Ft. Oglethorpe.

BirdDog78, just remember two things when moving to NW Georgia, (1) Deliverance was filmed here - and it ain't changed much, (2) between the end of Spring Gobbler season and the start of deer bowhunting, we get bored and hunt Yankees for fun. BIG SMILE

Seriously, Sixpoint40 hit most of the good high points--but for some reason he left out the traditions of catfishing, raccoon hunting (especially a good & spicy raccoon & tater hash, a few black bears and the redfish and seatrout fishing on Georgia's coastal inland waters.

Good bass fishing too. In NW ga you can go to Chickamauga lake, Nicajack lake, Altoona, Weiss, and several other smaller waters. I caught a ten pounder this year, and a couple of 5 or 6 pounders.

Thanks for all the info. Is hunting mainly done on public lands or through leases?
