feed and feeders

here in the next few weeks i'll be setting up a feeder in what i think is a good spot. my question is, what feed should i use to draw deer? the only thing that i can think of is corn. this past season we tried just putting it on the ground but the wild hogs devistated it. i think if we use a feeder and put it on a timer it will help. never used a feeder before. any advice?

Even with a timer feeder the hogs will find it . actually they will get to where they will come when it goes off far quicker than deer.
I build my own from barrels and 1" sq. tubing. you can use whatever motor you want and i would highly recommend a funnel.

Hey the hogs coming isn't a bad thing . in arkansas i can hunt hogs year round i don't about where your from . but it can add some "out of season fun" .

And i have fed corn through them but some like to use goat feed ,deer chow and i had a guy that fed soybeans.
now i am going to try a trough with all grain soon and see how they like that.

feeders work good, but with keeping it in the same spot, eventally with time every animal in the area will be using it,just set the timer for only a few seconds, so your feed will last longer, corn is probably the most liked by deer, but its a carb, no protein.use soybeans great protein,(big horns),i usually mix mine ,corn/soybeans,and its alot cheaper than the deer feed, and i usually set mine to feed in the middle of the day and middle of the night, normally most feeding times are early morning and evening, good luckand hope the squirrels don't chew a hole in the top of your feeder, one on one

Unless you have huge acreage just stick with corn. . . .Then while you will still get pigs set the feeder to feed twice a day, about 1 or 2 lbs. During the off season 3 seconds is enough. Your not trying to make them fat just trying to make sure they give you drive bys on a regular basis. I set mine to go off about 20 minutes after 1st light and about 1 hour before dark.:D

Course 14 and course 16 work great.....for the bucks especialy. Its a grain/corn/molasses sweet feed that they can't get enough of. Blue seal makes it and its cheap. I use about 2 bags a week or less @ $8 a bag. Try it...they love it!
