Lost a great Hill Country lease
The 300 acres where I have hunted the last 3 seasons was sold this past weekend. While the owner is a good friend it may take a while for him to find the new bigger place, it was a great offer he had to take it.
I am now looking for a new lease. If any of you folks know of something in Hill country drop a response. ;) |
RE: Lost a great Hill Country lease
thats to bad, i hunted around brady while i lived out in tx. i hate to have one yanked out from under me, it still is better than having it leased out from under you[:@], good luck on finding a new place. btw i'll try to find the man who owned the lease we were on, his first name was craig and i think his last name was vankirk, i'll see if i can find his #.

RE: Lost a great Hill Country lease
Georgetown boy,
I live in Austin and am also looking for a lease in our area. Let me know if you come up with any leads...I am a paid member of a couple of different leasing websites, but everything has been overpriced or over-gunned so far. PM me with any questions... |
RE: Lost a great Hill Country lease
I guess worst case I set up doe and pig hunts for me and my sons at a friends 2000 acre high fence exotic ranch. A bit pricy but he may give a break because it is for the kids, who knows. I am sure he has does that need culling. Most of his clients are corperate guys who want the trophies.
TexasHunter1. . .what do you consider to be overpriced. . just wondering. . . |
RE: Lost a great Hill Country lease
I had 800 acres that went the same way in the Hill country-bummer but keep looking I found 600 acres that I split with a guy a little west of Austin-seemed to be priced a little high but looks like a great spot.

RE: Lost a great Hill Country lease
Georgetownboy,
It depends on the acreage, quality of deer, and shelter (cabin or camphouse) available, but I consider $2000/gun in general to be too high for the hill country. I'd like to find a place for $1500/gun or less with another quality hunter or two with plenty of elbow room, and whether I sleep in a tent or not does not bother me. Do you have any leads on any properties? |
I know of a weekend lease in Brady . He is good. Burl wigginton. Call or email . [email protected]. Or can hint with me in San Angelo
|
It does seam harder and harder to find a place to hunt. Sad to say but it is impossible where I am.

Know the feeling
As I've said back east, I use to have a tree stand where a bedroom of a second floor house is located.
With population increases I've seen leases go, public land lost, private land sold, timber companies selling off land, a park made, and a minor league park built in the shadows of my duck hunting of my youth. |
