Looking for place to Dove hunt in VA
I am just south of Richmond. Trying to find a place to hunt dove this year. Not going to the public WMA. Don't mind paying. Just want to find some birds.
Any ideas? thanks, Dayton |

I have no idea about dove hunting down your way, but up here there are a lot of farms in the country that will let you dove hunt for $10. I'd go around knocking on doors and find a spot a few weeks in advance.

Any ideas? thanks, Dayton There are several private farms that charge. I know Sailor's Creek Outfitters near Farmville has a lot of sunflowers planted. I hunted there last year and killed a quick limit. Lots and lots of birds. The price includes a BBQ lunch and drinks. It was a very well-run operation and I plan to be there again this year. |

We're doing two dove hunts opening week. Monday, Sept 3rd-- Start @ 12 noon. Virgin sunflower and corn field. $200 a spot (only 6 left) Friday, Sept 7th-- Start @ 12 noon. Same sunflower and corn field as above having been shot once. $125 a spot. (21 spots left) Both shoots include a bbq lunch, cold beverages in field, and an after-shoot get together (BYOB). The field is full of doves right now and the shoot on Monday (labor day) should be pretty good. I will check out the fields 24 hours before the Friday shoot and if there aren't any birds I'll cancel it and if there are birds we'll shoot it. I'm expecting it to still hold birds on that day as has been the case in past years. JTE |
$200 to shoot doves?
I am in the wrong business. If you don't mind the drive check out some farms in the hanover king william king and queen and new kent area. Dove will eat and then grit up and also look for water. Look for some old sand pits or if you know anyone in the sand and gravel business. That's what I do. Things are slow till 4pm and then they come in hot and heavy to grit up on the sand. Good luck. |
