1,000 pound pig!
Some 31 year old fella in Georgia shot himself a THOUSAND POUND PIG!

my sister's sister in law caught a pig when it was just a few days old, it weighed over 1,000, but it was domesticated.....when he died they had to rent a backhoe(sp?).....

they didn't even let anyone see him.just dug a hole and burried him.didn't keep the head to mount or anything.

seen article hard to believe,but it could of some domestic of some type mixed in with bloodline

As an ex-hog farmer, my boars weighed from 800-900 lbs. My sows weighed 600-700 lbs. That is an auction scale not an estimate.
Yes this is a domestic breed probably a cross. If I had to guessed, I would say Duroc-York cross. I don't believe a feral hog can eat enough to get that size. There just isn't engough good nutrition available in the wild. However we did have a black bear in NC that learned to raid a dead hog box. When they killed him he was 880 lbs. Even if the boar raided a corn crib, corn is only 8-9% protein. Maybe he raided a wheat or soysbeans storage bin. |

I saw the photo and read about it last week on the CNN web sight. OK maybe not 1000LBs, but the biggest damn pig I ever saw. I guy who shot him was kinda standing in a hole so it does make the pig look bigger yet. I would have guessed 800/900 LBs and a good 8 feet long. Biggest one I have seen at my place was a 6/7 footer had to go 600LBs. It was in the rain after my cross hairs went away couldn't tell front from back. I crawled up on him and just placed one right in the middle. He just trotted off like nothing happened. My buddies look at me like I'm tellin a fishin story.

I'm not buying it. A feral hog has got to work for a living. No laying around being fed. Not gonna mount the head because no wall could hold it. I've seen lots of different kinds of mounted African game up on many different walls but no wall could hold this hog's head...yeah right. Just bury it and only let people see the pic. Makes alot of sense. NOT!:eek:[:'(][:-]

Nope, not buying it. No way was that a feral hog, plus with the gut standing in a hole you really can't tell how big it is. Smells fishy to me.

I think it's a hoax--for one thing, they've only got one picture of the thing? Where's the obligatory photo of the hog on the ground, next to the guy who shot it, and the gun it was shot with?
If I shot any critter that size, you'd better believe I'd have a bunch of photos taken. |

I live an hour or so from the plantation hogzilla was shot on. This plantation has guided hog hunts... the word around here is that she was a pen raised hog used for breeding and stocking the plantation. She supposedly escaped and was later shot. Some think that this is the reason there was no mount and not butchered... because it was more or less a "pet" pig.
Again, this is just rumors, so I don't know how true it may be. |

his thingies were bigger than the guys head..........no denying his gender....lol....it could of been that HE was used as a breeder hog......

Have you folks ever heard of "forced perspective" in relation to photos and film? Take a close look at the photo and ask yourself why is the hog in focus and the guy out of focus if he is standing right beside it? The answer is he is not right beside it but in actuality quite a ways behind the hog making the hog look much bigger than it is. That trick has been around forever.

The hogs on our hunting lease raid the cattle pens at night and eat grain, there is that. Biggest we've killed is 450lb. Wild hogs all have some domestic in them, I believe (except javalinas) at least here in South Texas. The feral hogs around here look like all different sorts of things. At the same stand you might see what look like javalinas almost, coarse grey-brown coat one night and the next night, see some at the same stand that look like farmer Joe forgot to close the gate.
