Per TR Michaels, which would be more in line with ALL the other southern states

Florida

North

Dec 30-Jan 6

Central

Jan 1-13

South

Jan 22-28

Not sure where Huntnma gets her info, but in the deep South the rut is usually in Mid December to Mid January, depending on how far south you go.

well i got my info from a friend because he said remember when you say the rubbing,etc.....it was in sept./oct...the buck was chasing a doe in late sept, so yeah he convinced me it was in sept/oct. and hes the one that told me that up in northern florida it was a lil later,oct/nov....i still believe where i hunt that they were in rut, or just beginning...the rubs and scrapes and the buck chasing the doe is sign enough for me..... i live in central fl........i dont live in the south, south.......or the north.............[:'(]

No offense huntnma, just curious as to why you were saying that early. I too have seen small bucks harrassing does early in the year, but for the most part those seem to be isolated cases of a youngster getting a little frisky.

Rubs and scrapes DO start showing up very early in the South, sometimes as early as the first of October in my area. However, 90% of the breeding happens b/t Mid Dec to the first of Jan.

Florida is weird when it comes to peak rut dates. I have hunted the pandhandle from the Aucilla river (jefferson county) to Marianna (Jackson County). The rut dates can vary up to two months from one end to the other. The area I hunt in Jefferson county peaks around the middle of November and by the 1st week of December things have died down.
As you go west the rut dates get later. Most of the areas of Gadsen and Jackson county usually run about the end of December to the 2nd week of January as prime times. Some areas closer to the coast and further west run as late as February.

I hunt north central Fla. along the Suwannee river.the rut starts here the last of Sept. into Oct. I usually rattle in several a year in B/P season the last of Oct.
In bow season they are chasing does and making scrapes in a big way.all along into the last of bow season we see them hot and heavy.the bucks start to shead the horns in Jan.the does drop the little ones in gobbler season.that is in last of march and April.

you do the figuring of the dates.

Well I have hunted NW FL for 25 years and the further west you go the later the rut. Here in Bay county and on my lease in Gulf County its Generally middle of Jan to first of Feb although I have seen bucks chasing as early as Christmas and as late as the primative weapons season which is usually middle of Feb. Gadsen and Leon Counties I haven't hunted in a few years but it was usually end of Nov. to middle of Dec.

i would tend to agree with the florida hunters and thier experiences, no offense to TR Michaels or doublecreek by anymeans......JMO

TR should stick to the state he is from. I hunt Raiford WMA in central Fl. and I have SEEN a buck mount a doe in late Sept. If that isn't the rut....AND if yo go to any WMA they have a list of the peak rut from county to county. I live in Duval county in NE Fl. and the rut happens at the end of the year but where i hunt it happens sooner. Part of the reason is the water level in different parts of Florida from the rainfall. Some parts get more rain at different times of the year. For some reason does do not want their fawns swimming on the day they are born:D.

Florida is a different place than any where else and we have a different subspecies of deer. Apparently they do things different down here.

sending a huge THANK YOU...........

being me, i just dont seem to have enough confindence in my hunting skills yet, i mean i do, but to stand my ground is unusual.....unless i am absolutely sure.....i'm a turkey hunter playing the role of deer hunter til turkey season comes around again, so i tend to lack knowledge that you men folk have......thanks again for the confindence boost......in the beginning it sure looked like i could of been way off, but i knew better....:)
