RE: what do you hog hunt with?

Well, I'm still looking for accessible land with hogs here in VA, but I plan on using my .30-06 or 12 gauge with slugs, depending on terrain.

I prefer the bow first , then the B/P and last my 243.

I bow hunt first then I have used everything from 243 up to 35cal. I mostly use my 243 now but will break out the '06 occasionally. My old Marlin 35cal really was probably the best hog gun I ever had out to 100yrds. Wish I had never sold it.

Bow. I got a clean pass thru back in March on a 75# meat hog (little boar) at 22 yrds.

I think it would be fun to do it with a pistol also. Maybe a 41 Mag. Another toy my LSW won't appreciate. My cousin down in N. Central FL hunts with a 44 Mag. My brother (NE FL prefers bowhunting them as well.

Bow, then probably my 30-30 or 30-06, depending on the terrain. I like spot and stalk bow hunting for them the best though.

The first couple of times (which last one being successful) was with an 300. Savage Magnum.
I want to take one with my bow someday :D

I use a .243, .270, and 44 mag revolver. Small calibers work wonders on hogs it is all shot placement though.

RE: what do you hog hunt with?

Depends. We usually catch them with dogs and feed them out. I use a 22 Mag handgun and shoot them in the brain. If I am not using dogs I usually carry a 45-70 Govt or a 30-30 Win. If they just happen to walk under the deer stand then there is no telling what I will have. Anything from a bow to a smoke pole.

was using .260 and .270 for longer shots but been having fun lately with a lever action .357 iron sights. Sneek right up on em and shoot em right in the eye when they finally see me. They look alot bigger when your layin in the grass and 15 yards and one spots you and gives a few good snorts.:D:D

Me and my buddies use blackmouth curr's, then turn the pits out to catch once they bay, then knife them. A lot of fun and adrenaline pupping excitement

Hmm..,

If I find a place in Va it would be great, I would use a bow first otherwise the .270 is coming out.

A couple of cur dogs and a pitt bull for the catch dog.
Every once in a while I'll use the bow or 270

bow and .270.....so far

RE: what do you hog hunt with?

Was using .260 or .270 but found many times I was stalking the pigs around my place to under 20 yards, so I have started using a little browning brush gun, lever action, Iron sights in .357. Gets your heart pounding when your layin in the grass looking nose to nose with a nice boar and he gives you a snort and starts heading your way. :D:D

I shot one last year with my marlin 336w 30-30 and dropped him in his tracks it was odd to be carrying that gun 99% of the time I use my remington 7400 30-06 it does the job on anything

RE: what do you hog hunt with?

it all depends on what the area is like. if the area is pretty flat i use a ruger1 30.06. if there are deep ravines i use a 7mag.if it is real brushy and i can get close i use a crossbow.

.243 Remington 100 Gr Core Locks. Shot MANY hogs with this gun in every size range right behind the ear and they hit the ground real quick.

Got a "Mean Ole' Bore" here in South West Arkansas, (Clark,Co.) named "99".....he done killed 11 good hawg dogs! Been shot and hit with numerous .270, one guy shot him between the eyes with 25-06 and he just wandered off! estimated weight of the hawg is 600lbs. +

Looks like need a Cannon to kill this one!
"Ole 99" is still in the woods as for as last March.
