deer hunting in warsaw virginia??
 

i got some land in warsaw virginia, i;m plannin on huntin it this season. i was readin the online virginia manual and i got alittle lost on the county by county regs. from what i gathered it;s a shotgun only area with slugs or buckshot, am i correct?
if so me being a new england swamp yankee and never shootin buckshot at deers, whats a good size and choke? thanks

Pauly, you are correct in buckshot and slugs only. I have a farm of 50 acres off 608. I'm trying to buy 30 acres next door. All of that's dog country, so buckshot is the norm. Look in the Regs. for Richmond Co. 6,7,66,67 Muzzeloaders are permitted. To be frank, it's shotgun country anyway. E-mail me if you need assistance. It's also great turkey country. Are you going to hunt with dogs? If so, buckshot is the way to go with the deer runnninng and like trap said, try modified choke and full choke with a couple of different buckshot and see how they pattern. If you are not using dogs I prefer the sabot copper slugs in a fully rifled barrel. I still and stand in a county that you can use dogs in and I almost always use my Ithica Deer Slayer with Remington copper solid slugs and it will bring a deer down at 125 yards no problem. Oh yeah, I get 2" groupings at that range also.

I pretty much argee with Remingtonman, buckshot for drives or dogs, slugs if you stand hunt. If you are using slugs get a rifled barrel, it will be more accurate and save you a lot of hair pulling!
