Openning day

First day of gun season in Southhampton VA. We killed a bruiser of a 8 point and a nice 9. The 8 pointer was 18 inside and the mass was incredible. The nine was just about 16 inches inside and not that heavy. In the evening I was down in the swamp and had a black coyote walk by me, I shot and rolled it and it got into a downed tree. I watched for it to come out on either side and I did not see it. I waited about 45 minutes and then got down and walk around the tree could not find it anywhere. I found blood and followed it for a while and then it got too dark. That is the first time I have shot at a coyote and I have heard that they are tough but a 3 1/2 OOBuck at 25 yards should have done the job.

I bet they are, I heard a story out of New Kent County of a coyote attacking a man on a riding lawnmower and he got his rifle and shot the coyote while it was still hanging arouund in his back field.

First thing is make sure it has expired......JK. Take it and have it mounted. This was the second one I have taken. The first was a female and this one is a male.He was the biggest one I have seen in the woods 40 to 45 puonds. You will find them more out west towards the mountains, I would say from Powhatan on out.King William is more east of Richmond right?

Yeah King William is east of Richmond, I have seen a few dead on the roads here over the years. And a few years ago I knew of a tree where a family of bobcats were living, but I have not seen any while out hunting yet

On all of our land, the land owners have told us to kill every coyote that we see. In one field before deer season they killed 7 coyotes over a 3 day time period. I am not sure what we have done with the ones we ill during the deer season that do not get taken to the tax.
