Nascar as far as the south goes there are two types of men, rednecks and good ole boys. Rednecks enjoy nothing better than to get drunk and get in a fight, win or lose they have a good time, they are also bigots and tend to have low IQ's. Stick with the good ole boys, they are friendly as long as you do not start faking a southern accent, or make fun of southern accents. A good ole boy will give you the shirt off thier back to help you out, a redneck will take the shirt off your back. White pickups usually do have a brown stripe down the drivers side, chew! Respect the ladies, even a good ole boy will kick your rear for disrespecting a lady. You will find everyone friendly as long as you are respectful. Chivalry still lives in the south. Talking about the war is okay as long as you know who REALLY won, it is still a secret to northerners. Try to learn how to chew or at least dip. Hats are mandatory, preferably in black with the #3 on it. Learn to like Hank Williams, Sr. & Jr. As mentioned never order hot tea unless in a chinese resteraunt and you better like sweetened tea, it is the only way it comes. Other than what others have mentioned there is very little taboo in the south.

in all my world travels, its the same people you find in all states. you always have good and bad, its just being able to distinguish between them.
the war sounds like a good subject to bring up, just to get conversation going. i just wont mention that its been over for some time now.
sounds like it will be a good time no matter how slow i have to speak. ya'll do have electricity, indoor plumbing?

One way you will know you're in the South is that kids will say "Yes, Sir!" instead of "Huh? or No Duh!" like they do up north.

When you get to the South, you can expect to be stopped to see if you're packing a gun. If you don't have one, we will usually loan you one until you can get your own!
