Hey y'all,
I'm up here in Easley but originally from Sumter. Mostly bowhunt up here at Fant's Grove near Clemson. Anyone else from this area that bowhunts? I killed 2 at Fant's Grove last year but as of yet haven't been successful this year. Saw 2 nice bucks but both were out of range[:'(]. Hope y'all have good luck. Will

Gert,
Haven't run into anyone that hunts that area...I would try to get over there soon and try some scouting...other than that good luck.

Pig farm is a pretty good area. Lots of good hardwoods back towards the railroad tracks. Pasture's on the other side of the railroad tracks that the deer should be feeding in right now, but the the tracks are the boundry. Esp. with a rifle, I would sit there b/c they cross back and forth pretty heavy.
Right behind the pig farm is good also, lots of non-shooters were seen this year there.

RE: South Carolina Hunters?

Whitty,
Did you bowhunt FG this season? I did some but was not successful...how bout you?

whitty 12-12-2003 08:47 AM

RE: South Carolina Hunters?

Yeah, I went a couple of times. Not as much as in years past b/c I went on a few trips this year but the times I went I saw deer but no shooters.
Some of my spots I usually hunt were logged out this year, they even took a tree I always climbed!

SCbowhntr 12-12-2003 06:38 PM

RE: South Carolina Hunters?

Whitty,
I know the feeling. I also lost a tree at a great spot I hunted at Keowee...I'm thinking about going in the morning...haven't been in 2 weeks b/c of projects and exams...all done as of today! Hopefully this cool weather will have them moving:)

I've lived in the Charleston area all my life. Grew up in Awendaw and hunted all over the tri county area. Now I live in Berkeley County, but I still dog hunt the National Forest in the area quite often. Most of my still hunting is done around my house on family land. I can tell you pretty much anything you want to know about the gov't land around here & point you to a few decent clubs in the area as well.

dbolt,

I'd come on up and hunt with you. I live near Mauldin/Greenville and only bowhunt. I'm hoping to get a snow on the hills near Lake Jocassee in January. I'll do some scouting for next season, pop some squirrels at the same time, and enjoy the scenery!

Hey Doghunter,

I've never hunted the government property. How do I go about bow hunting there? I would like to get educated on the matter for next season. How about some clubs around the tri-county area? Not for dog hunting, but stand hunting. Any help would be great.

doghunter 12-19-2003 09:42 AM

RE: South Carolina Hunters?

It's not that hard to hunt the Government woods. The best thing I would suggest is get a map of the Francis Marion & study it then get in your truck and scout out some spots. Just check the rule book before going out because if you're caught still hunting when they're open for dogs I'm pretty sure there's a nice fine. I would suggest bow hunting in the Waterhorn unit (between McClellanville & Jamestown off Hwy 45) or the Hell Hole unit (Huger area off Hwy 41). As for still hunting only clubs I'm not familiar with any right around here, most of my still hunting is done on family land near my house.

I live here in Easley but am attending school at Clemson for engineering. Mostly hunt Fant's Grove and Keowee...not much luck but have seen lots of deer early season. Be glad to hunt with you next season...would welcome a change in scenery:D Anywho...good luck for the remainder of the season.

Don, I live in Oconee Co. as well but haven't hunted the mountain like in years past. I've been hitting fants grove and keowee for the most part of the season.
I am gonna try to sneak up the mountain for a late season bow hunt over the holidays. Got some perennial spots that hopefully will produce;).
