Quantico Hunting
 

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to ask if anyone else is having a tough season on Quantico Marine Base so far the deer numbers and down and myself and other hunters have had a hard time getting on a good buck this year it looks like our bad winter has really done damage to the deer herd on Quantico.

The Acorns are better this year but the deer sighting are few and far between. I have noticed Scrapes are popping up but the deer don't seem to be rutting just yet

Have 2 friends that hunt MCBQ hard & they say coyote #s are at an all time high there. Living 20 min. north of there, I'd agree!

A very poor mast crop last year, an expanding coyote population, and a higher than average deer harvest last year has made for a decrease in numbers at Quantico this year. The deer are still there, but it is going to be more work this year than years past.

That being said, the best 2 weeks are upon us right now.

I agree I took this first two weeks off from Nov 1st through Nov 15th I hope the big bucks start moving more I haven't seen any mature bucks moving lately.

I sat tonight (Monday) and saw two does but they were alone and did not look like they were even close to rutting very confusing. I have seen rubs and scrapes but no big bucks during daylight hours yet.

I agree, dont see the big bucks moving yet, just the smaller ones. Heavy scrape lines cropping up though. I shot a smallish 7 pointer last Sun. off two big scrapes. He grunted really hard several times about 25 min. after I got on stand and could also hear him thrashing some trees. About two hours later he ran right up to me about ten yards. Almost too close to shoot from the ground blind I was in. He did not smell very rutty and his neck was not swollen at all.
