Bear hunting in Rapidan WMA

A buddy and I are planning a bear hunting and camping trip this fall. I've been looking for info on bear hunting in the Rapidan WMA but I've not seen any info from the last couple years. Does anyone have knowledge of the bear numbers in the area? I'm open to suggestions for other places within a couple hours of northern VA if there is good hunting.

Thanks in advance!

I googled, what county is Rapidan WMA in,when I saw your question. The answer was Madison and Greene.Madison had 78 black bear killed last year.I'll leave weight research up to you.You may want to consider Rockingham county. They generally have the highest bear kill and I've heard of 500+ pounders there.Have a good one.

Thanks Game Stalker. I was looking at Rockinghame based upon the VA department of fish and wildlife numbers, but hunters reviews have been less than stellar for bear hunting public land. I may look into it a little more...
