Question on Green Swamp West..
 

OK..suppose I get blessed and get my archery quota that I put in for..
Questions????

1. How will they notify me that I won?

2. Will I need to go to the court house to get the quota printed?

3. How many days do they allow to scout?

4.Will the gate be unlocked?

5.WIll I be able to drive in to scout..or hike all the way?

6.Does the deer have to be an 8 point during Archery?

1. If you applied online, results are available online a few days after the draw. I’m guessing you should be able to see them by end of this week or early next week. Not sure how it works if you applied at a licensed agent. But I’m sure you can stop by any agent (i.e. Wal-Mart) and ask for results a week or so after the draw. Remember you have until July 9 to pay/pick-up, or it will go back to draw.

2. If using online system, you just print from there after you pay the $100.00 fee. If from agent, you just go there and pay and they print for you.

3. Open year round, so scout anytime.

4. Yes. Gates open the day before each hunt

5. Hike. Drive/scout only the day before and during hunt.

6. No. One side with 4 points over 1 inch each. So, if is a 4 pt one side and no antler on the other is legal; or a 4 pt & spike side; or 4 & 2; etc. Doe only with doe tag.

Hey chuck...howya been...I put in for a few of the special opp permits as well...keepin my fingers crossed...If ya happened to get drawn let me know I might could help ya on some areas...between small game n hog huntin out there I have covered a lotta ground.

Thanks..I woulod appreciate that..Green Swamp was so disappointing last year..I've put my other quotas for Praire Unit and Three Lakes..much better stats on the season kills.

Thanks again..I killed a big hog a few years ago that was filled with disease..so I only hunt deer and turkey now..Fact , last year I had a herd of hogs directly under my tree..I watched them walk off.

Yea no problem...yea green swamp was very tough last year...I feel fortunate to have got a good buck... put an insane amount of effort into gettin one...with the warmer weather the rut just didnt kick in good till after deer season and with 4 confirmed cases of blue tongue it gots me wonderin about this season...i have been lucky so far all the hogs I have killed have been free of disease

Here's my story...I have a spot about 1 1/2 miles off of powder..lots of does the 2011 year..I go there and the water was high, snakes everywhere..and stands everywhere..depressing..

I moved to the other side of the road to another spot..flushed 3 nice does..scouted hard and found some good signs..saw 2 does very far off and MORE hunters..and I am 1 1/2 miles off the road...Bummed..

anyway..struck out..

At Three Lakes I have 2 ok spots {Nothing great} at Three Lakes..I plan to scout by butt off this summer and buy a tent..It's 90 miles to my spot from my house..but more promicing than the GS...

I hate to ask for help at the Green Swamp..I know how difficult it is to find deer..BUT if you feel inclined to hunt with me..I always split the deer 50-50 if I get one..the hogs..100% yours.

Thanks, yea I hunted some off powder as well last season aint see much but a couple does n got charged by a big grey boar hog...as for people I have found if I can get away from the crowds i can see a fair amount if game...last seasob was just rough...I kept rotatin thru my best spots and was able to pop one...I prefer huntin alone and keep my favorite spots to myself....but I am willin to give tips and hints and as far as GSW goes I will share deer info with because aint guarenteed to get in there every year...

A. Do you like 471 or Rock Ridge better.??.
I like Rock Ridge..471 looks more wetter...and the hunters appear more aggressive

B.DO you hunt in the bayheads or out of them??..I try to set up in them with archery..and hunt funnels during firearm.

C. How long do you sit? I try to sit all day..

D. Do you hunt in water? I try to go around water ..I hate moccassins...BUT I hunt near thick stuff.

I like both sides really...If im huntin the river I prefer the rockridge side...usually less people...i mix it up...i hunt edges and in the thick...i try pickin my stand location based on sign i find...I try sittin all day as well...i would say on average i sit about 6-7 hours...some areas i hunt hold quite a bit of water and snakes lol...but out in the swamp ya gotta put in a lotta work...but it is that challenge that I enjoy....like the ol sayin goes hard work pays off this holds true for greenswamp...
