yea past couple years its been rough...i think this season is the lowest hog numbers i have ever seen...n past 2 seasons have been below average on deer

Well....i have one decent spot at the GreenSwamp...a place so thick you need a trail tack every 20 feet...and once i still got bewildered for 15 minutes...my stand is in the midst of 20 feet cabbage palms...and a game trail 2 foot wide..At 6: something i heard what sounded like a buck crashing in sticks for a nice bedding..at 8:00 i gve a bleat...the buck returned with a grunt. ...and for 2 hours slowly circling my tree trying to get wind of me..at 12:00 he grunted loudly and was busting through the palms...my safety is off...my 870 shotgun waiting..my shooting window is only 15 yds..it is thick...by the way a doe had passed right before me about 30 minutes ago...anyway the buck stopped..must have smelled me ..grunted loudly and left...i stayed all day anyways...i saw his tracks make the 180 degree turn..he was just on the other side of a palm...

Lesson learned...probably a doe urine rag hanging up might have helped...wind was blowing hard..it was the last Fri. Of the season


As Bugsand bows mentioned...it can be h e l l ......one morning kids were within 300 yds and shot over 100 rounds of various rifles..ticked me off..my round trip is 60 miles...wasted


I found another decent spot...however there was another stand in the area..very active so i left the area although I've been hunting the spot since 2005. Saw does at 3 lakes...within 20 yds but....it's bucks only..

I did find a very nice buck skelton...beautiful european rack..i mounted it on my shed..big 8 point.at the Green Swamp.There are 4 stands in my general area...but only one in the scary stuff..lol i did hit a hog but could not find it..the reason why i went to a slug...the 30-30 lung shot just did not stop it...a 5 yd shot...right as i was getting ready to get out of the tree...my inner voice told me to stay at 11:00...at 11:00 they showed up.

Good report chuck sounds like you had some exciting action towards the end of the season. i would be intrested in seeing a pic of that buck skeleton if you dont mind posting it.

That skull looks like it was a purty good buck...I too ran into some close encounters in the thick n coulnt score a buck this season...got 2 hogs outta the swamp...went scoutin upper Hillsborough today for a muzzleloadin hunt I got this weekend, was able to find an area with a few rubs lotta scrapes fresh droppins n a right side shed from last year that had been nawled down by squirrels but looked like it came off a purty good 8 point...so Saturday mornin I will start off there n see what happens...anybody ever hunt upper Hillsborough n did ya have any luck?
