It turns my stomach to think that so many socialists live in this state...thinking it is good for governement to dictate what private land owners may do and not do on their own land. I hope one day they can see that it is hardly a far step between a governemnt telling you what you can do with your own land, and telling you where and what you may worship on Sundays.

The Virginia goverment takes away your property rights as soon as the dogs start to run......you can put up NO TRESSPASSING signs all along YOUR boundary lines but the guys running the dogs DON'T have to ask permission to come on your land......the VDGIF gives them the right to cross property lines anytime they feel like it to look for a missing dog.....and thats not right....As far as Sunday hunting....I really hope we get....those who DONT feel like hunting on Sunday.....STAY HOME.....just don't tell me I CAN'T.....

The reasons for not allow hunting on sunday in this article have all been roundly defeated. It is just that some delegates do not want to rock the boat and cause a contoversy. Just like crossbow hunting when the law is repealed the controversy will quietly die a death and in 5 years everybody will wonder what all the fuss was about.

If a bill is introduced this year many organizations need to support the individuals who have done enormous work so far. The NRA better step upo to the table and actively work to get this ban removed. All the other national hunting groups should also get inot the fray or it will go down again just like Marshall says. What would he say if 50 people called him and said lift the ban. What if 5,000 people called him and said the same thing. Then what would his excuse be.

Personally, I think that it's no one's business what day you hunt on. I work all week, and run my own business on the side. I go to reptile shows on a lot of Saturdays. It's an hour out to the property I hunt on most often. So sometimes Saturday hunting is out and Sunday is my only free day! I mean we have the freedom to protest military funerals but we can't hunt on Sunday.... Damn democrats and socialists......

I, too, am not happy about this situation. However, to win this battle we all need to be properly informed how this initially came about. In doing so you may find that it is not only the "democrats and socialists" who are to blame. In fact, if you did want to blame an entire group of people for this problem, you need only look to your nearest church as this is what's considered a "blue law." Kinda' like the one that used to be in place in Oklahoma where a person could not buy a car/truck on Sunday!

Now don't get me wrong, some of my best friends are good, church-going folk; I just don't like people impacting my life with their beliefs.

That is exactly right. If you look at who voted in favor of Senate Bill 850 last year in the General Assembly, you'd find that 2 Northern VA Democrats were the only ones in favor of it.

The good thing is...there are only a few states left that don't allow sunday hunting. It will eventually come to pass, but who knows when. Doesn't make sense to me. So much of the state has unlimited doe tags...and they still can't kill enough deer. They think more tags (but not more time to hunt) is the answer. Probably 2/3 of the hunters don't hunt much after the first week anyhow.

If you get rid of the dog running, you can keep Sunday a no hunting day.

But dog runners need Sunday to go look for their dogs.

That's another thing that is gonna be a tough one to change....if ever. I have a friend that hunts with dogs, he loves it. I've been a few times over the years, and while it was a neat change of pace and I had fun....I couldn't imagine doing that everytime we hunted. Not my cup of tea. I don't have a dog in the fight (pun intended :D) so it doesn't matter to me. I know the two sides are very dug in, who knows if that law will ever change.

The dog issue imo, is different than the Sunday issue. I think "most" hunters are good with Sunday hunting, its not necc the vote of hunters keeping it off the books - but others that have the say.

Regarding dog hunting and Sunday hunting, I think this link says it all. People can still deer hunt with dogs in various states. But others (myself included) would just like to have the choice of whether or not to go hunting on a Sunday.

I still say that it should be all about choice. If I want to hunt on Sunday, I would be given the choice if I want to. What's worse is that if I owned my own land in Virginia, I couldn't hunt it on Sunday. That right there is so wrong in so many ways, it is absolutely ludicrous!!! :rant:
