Default Help with Virginia's "Fall Turkey" dates

I understand and will abide by the dates set aside for the Virginia Fall Turkey season, but have never understood the meaning behind it coming in and going out so many times? I understand it coming in on Nov. 24th (Thanksgiving), but the others leave me scratching my head! Anybody know? I'm hunting in the counties in the "green"

I am almost positive the reason for the season goes out in mid November is to keep deer hunters from shooting turkeys during the first two weeks of the general firearms deer season (when there are typically more hunters in the woods). Places where hunters use dogs to run deer the dogs would also bust up flocks of turkeys and they would get shot. I don't know the reason for the Jaunary season. That is new for this year.

Turkey hunters tend to hunt on the ground as well and move a lot. I think it is a safety issue.

Thanks guys, and although those answers sound somewhat reasonable, I still feel the whole reasoning is still unexplained. I am going to send an email to the VDGIF and I hope they can elaborate a little on the reasoning behind the dates. Thanks, Ron
