I’m taking a trip to Florida Dec 2nd-Dec 8th to visit Mom&Dad who recently bought a house in The Villages. While I’m down visiting I was hoping to find someone to take me out hog hunting. I guess I could find some public land and go alone, but I don’t think that would be a good idea, not being familiar to the area, or to hog hunting. I don’t have the money to spend on an outfitter, so I was hoping to find someone on hunting net to show me the ropes of hog hunting. The Villages are located 55 miles NW of Orlando, near interstate 75, and the Florida turnpike. Bow hunting or gun would work for me, I would have to figure out how to get my bow down there, (we are flying from Chicago) my dad will have a .223 with him in Florida, if a .223 is too light and I need to borrow a rifle, Ill gladly pay for ammo and dinner. OK no replies, plan B. How about suggestions on public land in that area?

I live not to far from there. It's going to be tough to find someone to take you to their spot. Florida hunters are some of the most protective people about hunting locations I've seen lol.

Check out myfwc.com for more info on hunting in FL. Your .223 will work but I wouldn't use one myself. FL is thick and brushy and a shotgun with a slug or buckshot would work much beter. Lots of public spots in that area but the chance of you getting a pig on public land and never scouting the area before are slim to none.

Your best bet would be to look up a hog hunt on pricate land. Some places advertise on craiglist for between 150-300 bucks. shoot me a PM if you won't and I can lay out a few places for you. The villages are a big area so let me know wat side your on.

Thanks for the reply Alpine Archer, I thought the same thing about hunting public land without knowing the area. I'll check out craigs list and see what I can find.
