Hey I wanted to start a thread that could let guys from the Northern Virginia area show and post photos of there big bucks they killed in the area Prince William or Manassas or Faquier or FairFax would love to share some photos of a good 2010 season I will be posting photos also.

Had a bigger animal in at 15 yards but too much brush..saw 2 more that would have scored higher. Quantico was pretty hot..5b was closed for a couple of years building that facility so the bucks were allowed to grow...this guy came from my old reliable 6c spot

Very cool Grizzl I hunted quantico last year and didnt see any mature bucks I killed a nice 11 pointer in 2009 and saw some nice bucks that same year on mainside but missed my chance hopefully quantico will be hot this year any tips would be great I'm just 23 years old and I try to hunt smart but I'm addicted to them mature quantico bucks becuase all I hear is guys say oh there are no big bucks on quantico there are huge bucks they are just smart so any tips would be great thanks plus I'm a bow hunter

There are BIG animals at Quantico. They are just SO aclimated to humans and they pattern hunters like you would not believe. They KNOW when NOT to move and will sit tight. One trick people use during gun season is for two people to walk the same path but the 2nd guy is 100 yards behind..the deer circle the 1st hunter and walk right into the second..

The BIGGEST TIP I can say is DON'T SHOOT an animal less that 100".
That seems hard but I started video taping deer I pass on and it's JUST as fun (at least to me). So I am content to wait. On Quantico, the big deer learn to let the young ones run interference...let em walk buy and a big one could follow. Lastly, (for now) get into your stand as EARLY as you can..BEFORE most hunters even enter the woods..be setup and QUIET...I took my best in 6C just as it was legal shooting light..he was heading to bed in a VERY thick pine cluster that I had scouted out.

Other topics are scent control, direction of approach to the stand-not cutting trails, using other hunters to your benefit, hunt the evening!!!, and between Oct 25 thru 2nd week of November (depending on moon phase and the rut)..FIND THE DOES and setup there...wait for the estrus cycle to heat the woods up..

Anyway..I'll be there again for 3 weeks this fall. There are at least 2 150's I am looking get close two before they get shot off. The area they are in has been closed for 4 years and was opened last year..LOTS of big animals came out of there but a good crop survived...another gun season shot thin them out next year though.

get the report from range control on how many days the areas were open to hunters the previous season..work the odds by scouting less pressured areas..

6C gets hammered and is a DMAP are which means does/button bucks get shot off..its a LOW deer area BUT the cemetary is a sanctuary and holds monsters..they only cross when in rut..PLUS you have the Prince William Forest no Hunting accross 619...I've seen monsters crossing the road pre-dawn going back to the park...you just have to ID one and setup hoping he's late one time

Thanks for the advice I killed a doe out of 6C in 2006 and there is a marine guy that kills monsters out of there it seems like every year he has taken 140's and 160 out of 6C. there are a few guys that kill big bucks ALMOST every year and with the bucks being smart on quantico and sometimes personal life coming in the way I 'm just wondering how they do it with no being able to hunt all day everyday I get to hunt late oct-dec Im pretty smart I killed 3 125"+ out of the gun areas on quantico 9B 10A and 7A you said you were planning to hunt a area that has not been open for like 4 years I try to pickup on areas that havent been open for awhile and are you talking about ETA or 2,3,4 or 7A or 8A not trying to invaid your area at all I just like to no info about the areas that havent been pressured I noramlly hunt 14A,7A,10A,14B,16C,PA2 those are my go to spots for seeing big bucks normally suring the rut I would love to find and big buck and hunt him 1 on 1 but its hard becuase either he never does the same thing or he only shows up a night or he is MIA come hunting season it seems on quantico that is you don't get your big buck by the first or second week in NOV it might be next year LOL but there was a older gentlemen last year that hunts mainside strickly and he shot a 160" 10 pointer in Dec with crossbow and he kills big bucks every year he is retired but still its tuff to kill big bucks every year on a heavily pressured area such as quantico I have big buck sightings about every 2 or 3 years I want to get to see big bucks like 3 or 4+ every year and if not atleast every other year I'm defiantly not trying to be concedied I just love the rush when a big bucks is around my tree stand I no this is long but any other advice would be great I totally understand about living in flordia great weather
