Hello all...
My name is Ron... I am 27 years old and live in Fredericksburg, VA...
I am "NEW" to hunting... I have been out to Church Creek, MD twice where I was invited to my cousins Friend's farm...
I really enjoyed the experience and am looking to really getting into the sport...
I went out and purchased my first rifle (Remington Model 700 ADL .30-06)...
I am hopeing to find someone that is willing to take me under their wing and teach me the ropes and the in's and out's to Hunting in VA... I don't have any land so I would need to learn about State Land Hunts...
Hope to hear from someone...
THANKS
RON

Welcome aboard, Ron...
You need to visit Virginia's DGIF (Dept of Game & Inland Fisheries) website and read all the rules, regs, and laws.
www.dgif.virginia.gov
Since you're in Fredericksburg, the nearest public land WMA (Wildlife Management Area) is CF Phelps, right up Route 17.
http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/wmas/detail.asp?pid=17
They also have a rifle range, where you can practice with your Remington .30-06 and get really proficient and learn which ammo it likes the best. You also need to real the regs on the DGIF website and check out the ordnances and various counties regarding rifles. Some allow rifles, some don't and only allow muzzleloaders and shotguns. Some don't even allow any firearms at all (bow only) -- i.e. VA Beach, City of Richmond, close suburbs of D.C. ..etc...etc...
Also (I'm sure you're aware), since your "new" to hunting... You need to go through the hunter education course before you can get a license (if you haven't already done so). All the info is on the DGIF's website.
I'm sure others will help out too. Again, welcome aboard!
