Three Lakes Anyone?

Hi All,

Been lurkin round here for a few weeks and wanted to say hello.

So who is goin up to 3 Lakes for the Gun Season?

Seems like a pretty good bunch of folks here in the FL Forum and look forward to contributing when I can.

Chuck7 11-03-2010 04:56 PM

last count about 20 bucks 20 doe AND 20 hogs Black powder and archery..When I left I saw a big deer being dressed at leaset 170 pounds...big ole legs on it
All the roads are easy and the place is dry..the camp is packed and I saw about 50 differnet trucks..honestly.. I saw a lot more game at the Green Swamp last year..Three Lakes is 90 miles from my house Green Swamp is 26 miles...I may hunt 3 Lakes 2 more times..God willing about my knees..I'm in His hands

Appreciate the Update!

Maybe we could get a fresh thread goin for 3 Lakes.

No Need for specifics but helpful info through the remainder of the season.

I'll post sumpin up as Gen Gun gets goin.

Just a Thought...

SOunds good ..this is a good start right here on this ole thread { -;

Most of the camp is parked campers that isn't even occupied...ALl the hunters I saw were very friendly..The daily quota is different than the Grren Swamp..many times there is no one manning the entrance { There is no gate}

you simply take a card...hunt..fill out the card...place card in the steel box and go home.

Much of Three Lakes is high and dry..I 've never seen a snake there or has trouble with other hunters..You can drive a car down their dirt roads. The place is over 50,000 acres like the Green Swamp..lots of acorn trees..I owuld live there if it wasn't for the drive..you will need to put some seriuos hours in to scout it..I think I found a decent spot I plan to watch one day with my son during the rut..just a shot in the dark.

I plan to use my 870 12 guage in the Green Swamp..as I hunt inside bay heads and my 270 at Three Lakes ..alot more open shots.

My 870 shoots 3 inch groups at 100 yds..my 270 shoots 1 inch groups at 100 yds..It's also a Remington

Questioins

If I drive to Three Lakes on the 60 entrance ..how long is the road till I get to Canoe?

Is the gate always open..I hate to get to the end and the gate be locked?

Thanks,
C7

I found a way to cut 10 miles off the trip..Going down 60 about 7 miles before running into to YeeHaw Junction..I take a left on a dirt road called Peavine Rd.
The road is 8.5 miles long..It comes out on Canoe Rd..When you get to Canoe Road by the white Baptist Church..Take a right and you are only 1.5 miles away from the Convience Store at Kenneceville. Take a left from there and you are about 7 miles from the Three Lakes entrance WILLIAMS RD..

Which is less pressured BULL CREEK or 3_Lakes?
Going to start hunting Florida with my son. Already scouted Bull Creek years ago...lots of hunter sign...

Chuck7 11-06-2010 03:47 PM

I never hunted Bull Run..how far is it from 3 Lakes?

Just North of 3-lakes

Directions:
Take Exit 71 from Interstate 95 at Melbourne. At the exit ramp, turn west onto U.S. Highway 192. Drive 21.6 miles west to Crabgrass Road. Turn left and drive 6 miles south to the check station.

Has 2 creeks Crabgrass and Bull that make it swampy where the deer hang..in the oak hammocks. Most of it is dry palmetto plains but the animals are concentrated in the north where the forage is..unfortunately..its a small area and high pressure.

You get walked on in 3-lakes...50,ooo acres is a good size to work on...

You mentioned campers...you need a pass to put a camper there?

Chuck7 11-07-2010 04:55 AM

Thanks for the update..

No sir,,camping is free..no permit needed..I never saw one hunter on foot..nor any foot tracks of hunters when I scouted.

Bull Creek looks very wet to me..I think I'll leave it alone. Three Lakes and Green Swamp will keep me busy for sure.

Fla.Swamper 11-07-2010 04:47 PM

I have permits for both Bull Creek and Three lakes for this coming "opener". I've only hunted Three lakes a few times before....didnt see much but the deer sign looked good. I know pretty much every part of Bull creek, been hunting there for 30 years. Yes, most of the deer are hold up in the swamp bottoms, but I've had pretty good luck in the palmetto fields on the swamp edges too. bull creek is very dry right now, as is most of our state. If my buddy doesnt come through to hunt with me at bull creek, maybe we can hook up at 3 lakes....I dont like going out by myself anymore, I'm not young and invincable anymore!

Chuck7 11-08-2010 10:05 AM

10-4 ..I need a partner too,. Right now my son is my partner..but will let you know if that changes..He can't get the time off like I get.

WalkinFL 11-16-2010 12:06 PM

So Anybody get up there yet?

Any 2nd Rut Chasin?

Grizzl 11-17-2010 04:23 AM

So are the passes there in the AM or is there hunters waiting to get in before 1st light. My son and I are planning for a trip next week. How hard is it to get in in the AM?

Same question for Bull Creek if anyone knows

Chuck7 11-17-2010 06:23 AM

Last time I was there ..2 weeks ago..a worker would not let the vehicles go through until 5:00..I plan { God willing and my knee holding up} to be there this Sat..I'm checking out a new spot..I wished I lived closer so I could do better scouting..lot's of decent looking terrain that is condusive for deer hunting..but it would be nice to find that one special spot {-;

Fla.Swamper 11-19-2010 05:22 PM

At bull creek last sat. morning, there were people lined up befor 5:00 waiting to get in. There should'nt be a line this weekend, but they won't let you through before 5:00. As for me...I saw a 4 point and a couple of does. As of the time I left un. evening, there had been six deer taken out that weekend. One being a 152lb 8 point.I know that does'nt sound like much to you guys in other states..... but here in central Fl., thats a whopper!!!

Fla.Swamper 11-19-2010 05:23 PM

Oh, and everyone I talked too that had taken a deer said that "he was chasin does".

Chuck7 11-20-2010 12:28 AM

FL Swamper..any buck in a WMA in central Florida is a whooper.LOL

So how does this work at BC and 3L..you show your hunting license and they give you some kind of paper pass? What kind of entry process goes on.

Just finished sighting in....ready to rock and roll next weekend...

Chuck7 11-20-2010 03:21 PM

I haven't been to BR but I have been in Three Lakes,,,,

Pull vehicle up...to some one standing in the road

They hand you a post card like deal..they don't check your license.

Drive on

WHen you are done you check off a couple squares and put card in box..and drive on

.IF you score you ..you stop and they weigh it..remove jaw bone

Fla.Swamper 11-20-2010 03:35 PM

Bull creek is pretty much the same...last year you just signed yourself in in the morning, and signed yourself out when you leave.I don't know if they give you a "day pass" card or not now. They don't normally check for a liscense going in, but the Ranger there has been known to check EVERYONE leaving in the evening (kinda like the doberman that lets a burglar into your house, but after he's got your silverware in his hands, won't let him out!)

Chuck7 11-20-2010 11:15 PM

Three Lakes folks are the sweetest I've ever seen...very nice country folks

Fla.Swamper 11-22-2010 06:28 PM

Headin out to Bull Creek in the morning for a few days. Hoping to have the woods to myself, being the middle of the week before Thanksgiving. If anyone's interested, come on out and see me....I'll be the one in camoflage and orange vest!:biggrin::wave:

Chuck7 11-23-2010 12:11 AM

Hey you'll be wearing the same as me..

Chuck7 12-04-2010 06:59 PM

Hey I called you sir before I even got out of the stand..you were the 2nd one..my dad in Maryland was the first. ..I didn't know what to expect..his rack was much nicer than I was expecting..and his body was bigger than I thought..It sure is nice to find your deer down..the joy is undiscribeable..We all must be true addicts..{ -;

The bruiser I saw last week was at least an 8 with 120 inches and so big..I'd need help..I'll be ready if he comes by again..the 270 is more than enough
