Hunting in Blacksburg

Hey all,

I am currently going to school at Virginia Tech. I was wondering if any of you guys know where i could hunt close to Blacksburg. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

The Jefferson National Forest has excellent hunting opportunity, especially if you hike a little further than most of the lazy folks who stay within a couple hundred yards of the access road they use. Maps can be found online, as well as at the ranger station on Main St. Some of the outdoors stores also have maps, but they get a bit costly. I know some tech students have posted on Craigslist asking for hunting access on private lands. I would suggest getting out in the National forest right now and start scouting an area.

Radford ammunition plant property. You have to apply for a permit to hunt there.

Just look around you during the year. You will see many who hunt there and you will more than likely find someone up there to help you. There are plenty of places to hunt in that area.

Virginia Tech has a hunting club for the students last time i checked. A guy i used to work with was telling me about it. Might be something to check into to meet some more like minded people on campus. As far as hunting the area goes, i would look into the forest, if your good at studying a map, pick out and area and get on it. I have done it a few times down there north of Roanoke and have had pretty good success.. Look for areas with less road access, if your in good shape look for a hard walk on the entrance of the forest, the numbers of people will dwindle.
