VA: Country property wishlist....

My wife and I are in the enviable position of starting to look for some vacation property to put a cabin on and hunt from in the winter, park the wife and daughter at for the summer, and just enjoy.

I live in the Northern Virginia area and would like to stay in VA if possible.

We have looked at the Northern Neck, the Danville area (kind of far) and everywhere in between.

Any suggestions? A list of things to consider and things you couldn' t live with or without? Size? etc. I have a budget of about $100k and would like to get at least the shell of a structure with that, but it is not crucial.

RE: VA: Country property wishlist....

It' s not uncommon for parcels of land bordering the national forest, consisting of anywhere from two or three acres, up to twenty or thirty acres, with an old hunting cabin on it to sell for anywhere between twenty five thousand to fifty or sixty thousand here in Bath county.

There are several sources that announce the current properties for sale, I suppose that if your interested in the area, I could probably dig up a web site or two, plus the number for our local paper.

I see probably a half a dozen or so properties a year that I think would be GREAT places for a second home, or hunting camp for the person who has a little disposable cash.
