Sod Farms?
Hi guys,
I' m hunting a new area this year, one that abutts several large sod farms (in addition to blueberry and watermelon farms). I haven' t had any experience with them, so... would deer seek out the sod farms, over watermelon, blueberries, or whatever wild forage was around? And do sod farmers actively try to keep the deer out at all? Thanks! |
RE: Sod Farms?
Sod farmers around here have more problems with the dang hogs than anything. I doubt the deer would be attracted to the sod areas as they are mainly browsers, but they definitely like watermelons.

RE: Sod Farms?
The sod farms here in MS wouldn' t be much help to deer. The sod rarely gets over 2-3 inches tall. They are mainly interested in growing roots. If they don' t get it cut for sod before it gets taller, they will cut it. Also they grow mainly Zoysia and Bermuda.

I wouldn' t spend much time watching the sod farms.Deer love watermelons. That would be where I would be watching.

hey hows it going? when I get back up to ohio to hunt in open places like that I like to find tree line or some other cover that the deer use to travel over hunting the fields I have had bucks stay in the cover till way after dark I had one walk down one side of a soybean field and down the other end of it and never did come out in the field but I would scout all of it you never know the best buck I ever got to see was 10 foot behind someones yard laying in the weeds good luck
