Hickory, NC

My wife and I just moved to Hickory, NC and I am looking for some information on gun ranges and hunting in the area. I am mainly interested in Bird hunting. I would also really like to find a trap and skeet range.

thanks for the help.

RE: Hickory, NC

I'm from Morganton, which is about 25 miles west of Hickory on I-40. Can't help you much with the Hickory area though. I was always going north toward Boone or west toward Asheville. Luckily though, western NC is full of National Forest land. Unfortunately, I can't help you much with bird hunting either. Never got into it. If you're into deer hunting, I'd suggest Hwy 105 along the edge of the Linville Gorge. I grew up hunting this area. Like most mountain areas, there aren't a ton of deer, but there are some bruisers in there.

RE: Hickory, NC

Thanks for the help linville. I actually grew up in Brevard, NC which is west of Asheville. We used to bird hunt a lot but the area got to be too developed. All the corn fields and land we hunted now have houses on them. I then spent 10 years in Wyoming where I got into big game hunting. Mostly deer and elk. Anyways, i have moved back to NC and i am wanting to get back into bird hunting.
