hunting in the middle tennesse area?

I am actaully from the cumberland plateau, I have moved to Cookeville TN to finish up some of my schooling. In order for me to hunt the way I enjoy, I would have to drive 2 hours just to go hunting and actually not be able to hunt as much cause of price of gas. So I am wonding if anyone around here may know of some hunting sites or actually have a place they might let me do a little hunting. thanks

Was driving back home from NM to NC via I40 and came through Jackson TN about 1am in the first of august and saw 2 130 class bucks with a 150 class buck feeding within 5ft of the emergency lane

+1 for jackson. I live about 45 minutes from jackson and I go there about once every other week and always see good deer from the road. If I knew of a place to hunt in that area, I'd be there in a second!

Those Jackson deer beat all I ever saw....but then again feeding in non huntable areas at 1:00am might be why theyre so big

The reply telling you to check out TnDeer.com is possible the best advice.
I do not know the Cookville area but when I lived in Knoxville there were a lot of public hinting areas within driving distance (under 100 miles) that are free and some with good deer populations.
The wildlife mgt. areas are good places to start.
Check out the Tenn Wildlife Resource Agency web site, need to spend some time on it. They will give you a name and ph no of a local officer who will be a big help.
Bottom line is it takes some effort on your part to search for them but there is some great hunting places with-in a few miles of Cooksville. I hope this helps.
