florida hunters

The state of Florida Fish and Wildlife conservation commission is considering some major changes to the bag limits on bucks depending upon the results of surveys
they have posted on their website. All deer hunters should fill out this survey.
I think if we want more and better quality bucks on public grounds then some changes need to be made, (antler restrictions, stricter bag limits, etc.)[8D]

They really need to thin the does out some to. I have spoken to my brother-in-law who is a game warden in Hosford and he saaid he doubts we will see any big changes in the doe days or limits on public land anytime in the near future.
Where do you hunt? I have hunted the National forest a few times and a couple of the wmas west of Tallahassee and around Monticello years ago.

" " " " " " LONG ANSWER,PLEASE READ,BEFORE YOU CONDEM ME" " " " " "
I have hunted Fla. all my life;(hunted for about 50 years.)
all these changes have been made at one time or another.we still don' t and will never have " TROPHY" bucks.
back in the 60' s we brought in Wisconson bucks, and breed does.the limits were put at two a season, with 5" horns and was that way for years.we got more deer than the land could carry and still no big deer.
then we went back totwo a day, with doe days,1" horns, and the heards still grew and no bigger deer.
we do not have the food supply or the genetics to produce Large Trophy deer.
if you seperate the state in the same manner that the turkey popuplation it in,the line being the seperation for eastern and oseola.take the north portion, there are a lot bigger deer than the south portion.the farmning is heaver in the north than the south.
it could be possible to have larger bucks in the north, but " NEVER" in the south, there is just not the food supply to do it.

we have had to keep feed stations going year round for the past several years to just keep the deer in good health.we need to take more deer out of the heard(does and bucks) not limit the take.the carring capasity of a lot of central Fla. is at a maximum

there is one stretch of US hwy 19/98 about 23 miles long, you can go any night you want and see(I am not exaggerating)30 to 40 deer in the ditches looking for food.each year from the start of bow season till the end of turkey season,I will find two dozen or more deer ran over on that streatch of road.(that is the time I run that road).durning hunting seasons.

I think we need to leave the regulations as they are now,we just upped the does season to a full week last year.that should help some.

I have talked to and discussed this with a lot of people, they have sent in opinions;near 100 of them, and had only one person that thinks we need to go with change.

JMHO,;I will go with,leave as is.......my 2 cents,there are 98 more.....[:-];):D

Treeclimber, you are very right. I think if they make any changes they should go by the countys or sections (nw, central, etc.). I also think if we are going to a qdm
type program we will need better doe management and high protein food plots on the public lands. I know the lands next door to the Management area I hunt are starting to kill some very nice bucks since they started they,re qdm program 2 years ago. I dont know what the real answers are but something definately needs to be done as the quality of the hunting is really going downhill.

Tree climber sounds like the stretch og 98 going throu Tyndall airforce base your talking about. I have counted as many as 60 deer on that stretc of road in a night. I agree with both of you a lot more needs to be done as far as balancing the buck to doe ratio especially on public land. Antler restriction will help the quality of the deer some but only if in conjunction with other things such as food plots and feeding stations and getting the herd to a size the land can handle.

Gulfcoast; I' m talking about US19/98 south levy co. suwannee river area.

sounds like there are a lot of deer all over.now they want to limit the take again.we don' t have enough being killed on the hwy. so lets not shoot them and eat them.let the buzzards and coyotes enjoy them and not the hungrey of our country.

politics,go figure.[:@][>:][X(]

you are all very correct in what you say. i only hunt on public land and i see approximately 40-50 does a year. they need to get rid of some of them so bucks with trophy potential can develope. myself i think they should go to a 4-point rule or6-point rule and be allowed to take 5-inch spikes. propably atleast half the bucks taken each year are 1 1/2 year olds so let them grow up some. they should let us take 1 doe during muzzleloader season. one of the wmas i hunt has a section that haS alot of huge spikes around 14' ' and go about 145 pounds so they need to be removed from the heard if not then we will be run over with trophy spikes. not a pretty picture.
