South Georgia Hunting Leases
Is it me or are some of these So.GA land owners smoking some funny Crops? I have heard of Leases going for as much as $17 an acre [&:]. Only a few years ago, you could lease hunting property for $7-10 in the same areas. Has anyone had similar experiences?

RE: South Georgia Hunting Leases
I know of some land that brought $25 an acre last year in south Bama. Most of it is running around $7 now. I know of some clubs that are having a hard time getting members due to the gas price increase.

We stopped hunting in south Ga. 12 years ago because of this reason. The trophy management club was 1200 dollars yearly dues back then (my dad paidit, not me!), and then we lost the lease because of development. It was a great club and I missed it, but it would probably go for 3000 dollars today. We tried to find another south Ga. club, but there was very few comparable clubs for that price. My dad and brother found a trophy management club in Jefferson countythat is just as good for almost half and it is 35 miles from our hometown, not 140 miles. My dues are 690 and 850 for 60,000 and 80,000 acres, so I feel like I am getting a steal in florida

One of the highest Club dues come from Leases that are owned by Proctor & Gamble and Georgia Pacific....Some of the lowest are Saint Lucy & Buckeye Paper....
The best are the onesOwned & Leasedby Local property owners......

Thanks for all of the info guys...You would think that due to the economy, less people would be traveling and paying these prices but I think we'll see some real changes by next year. I predict that many of these land owners will see the light when they fail to lease out their properties this year and will have no choice but to drop the price next year...that is, if they need the money and want to lease the property.

RE: South Georgia Hunting Leases
I started reading this just today and smiled my rearend off. I grew up in South Georgia when we had very little deer and could just ask a local farmer about hunting and fishing his farm and just like that, we could. Then some folks from up north started to want to pay for our precious resource, then we no longer got to hunt those farms free. Then those old farmers died off and their sons took over. Prices have to go up. You are not going to pollute and destroy these farms as so many were done and just pay a small fee. Do that back home.
See I grew up on those farms and saw the fences mowed down by somebodies 4 wheel drive truck. How about those animals shot and left dead in the woods, deer, hogs (wild and domestic), cows horses and even llamas. Things are not cheap anymore. Maybe replacing that gate the second time or that wildfire that burned off a few acres of pines. Nothing major.
I quit hunting in South Georgia also, sold the farm. Actually, family acquired it the easy way. I now hunt WMA's around the state and on odd occasions on some free hunts with freinds.
I am sorry for the inconvience the price of a resource has put on so many. BUT I ain't really.

Twenty years ago, leasing land to hunt was unheard of in southeast Illinois. Now, it is increasingly common and $20 an acre seems to be the norm. I have no doubt that the price will double over the next decade. In that regard, things are tough all over, or they will soon be.
