It is a little on the slow side. Most recent outing heard a lot of gobbling early and then I guess they henned up becauseall the gobbling stopped around the same time.

Its not that slow here, actually it's pretty good. My brother was calling one up sunday and someone cut him off to the bird and killed it about 80 yds from him. Scared him to death when the guy shot it, he got mad and left the club. Monday morning he went with a friend of mine on thefriends grandfather's land and they heard 6 different gobblers. My brother called up two and my friend killed the biggest one- a 10inbeard,1 1/4 spurs gobbler. It was his first gobbler.

killed a nice bird opening day down in polk county. lots of hard gobbling off the roost, but they quieted down somewhat once they hit the ground. i was able to get a hen mad and once she decided to come in, the big boys followed.

I have called in 7 different birds for my friends in the 1st week of the season. With all that luck we still have seen a drop in the gobbling actio that we had for the past 2 weeks. My friends have killed 3 of the 7 and I haven't even tried to get a shot. I think this is one of the best years I have ever had and don't even want to shoot.

That's good to hear. I've been seeing a lot of good birds in the high springs area also.

Well I just finished a 9 day hunting tour that included 3 WMAs and some private land. 6 birds were taken. Here is my analysis.... The gobblers have been ready for a month, strutn and gobbl'n. The hens seem to have just started this past week, which means the gobblers will be hard pressed to leave the hens. There are a great number of birds, complements of a drought the past couple years allowing more hatchings. Most Toms will be taken in the presence of a hen right now, but there are a couple starting to stray. Seeing a lot of single hens the last couple days. I'd say that in about a week when, less hunters are in the woods and when more hens have been bread, the Toms are going to be a llittle easier to persuade for a visit with some #5's. Don't be quick to head out of the woods by 9am as a lot of action will take place after that when they are left alone by their roosted girlfriends. Thats my take, one more week and it is going to be really active!

those hens are already nesting......burned one clutch of 10 with babies in the egg, then 4 with yokes during one of our burns last week....but they have plenty of time to re-nest.....the toms this weekend were gobbling until they flew down.they'd met up with the hens and after 10:00a.m. , it was back on....it was great.....
Congrats Byrant1 to your uncle and bro....you'll be next.......
