Uh-oh.... Here comes a deer dog vs still hunter debate.

(btw, has anyone noticed we got a bunch of new "smilies" ???) I like this one:

Edit: I personally don't hunt deer with dogs. I know guys who do and do it right. Then again there are those who ruin it for everyone. I have had my share of bad experiences, so I just choose to hunt where the deer dog runners can't go.

Butch, I have been in clubs that do run Deer Dogs, but I have neverowned a deer dog. Here in FL you have to registerall your dogs and have your Name, Address and Phone # onall the dog collars. Also, they better not get caught on Deer Dog Restricted Areas.

rebel hog- when's the last time you have been there? Patti's was there YEARS ago, like 8-9 years ago. There is nothing there anymore. No where to get good food like your talkin about around here anymore!
San pedro is a pay WMA now, it is like 150-200 dollars per year. The club your talking about i have been in with a college buddy from madison. Only problem I can see with that place is it lookstoo thick to still hunt in some areas.

I am just trying to "stir the pot" with the question i posted!!:D

From what I can understand, dog running is done a totally different way up in your region. we run on 20,000-120,000 acres usually, not 1,000 acres.

Even though Bowhunting is my passion--I run deer hounds in North west Florida--On the Econfina Mgt.area--We don'thave to have the dogregistration--But on lease land we did!!! Between bow season and the rut in mid to lateJanuary its kinda dead good time to run a hound!!

We've hunted with dogs for years and years in Gulf Hammock. We hunt with Begals which have good noses and tend to tire out around mid-day or so after a good race. This makes them much easier to catch in the afternoon and you dont have them running across half the state. Last year they set aside a special part of the wma for still hunters only which I'm sure the dogs still run through but at least you wont have all the yahoos running tucks and 4 wheelers like mad men through there.
