Who is going to the Green Swamp on the 22nd?
 

Just wanting to know who from here will be out there onSept. 22nd.and which gate are you coming in on.

I'll be coming in on the Rockridge Gate. I live 30 miles away so I don't camp there. If any will be camping there I'd like to stop by and say hi.I plan to sit till 10:00 AM

I'm from Mulberry/Lakeland area. Will be hunting Arbuckle, Green Swamp, and Croom. Not too long now till season opens!!!

I won't be hunting the swamp opening weekend. I've done some extensive scouting at Arbuckle and plan on hunting the first couple of weeks there. I will be sure to let you know if I am going to be out at Green Swamp some weekend or over Polk County SchoolsThanksgiving Break.
By the way, I drive a maroon/dark redChevy Colorado so say hello if you notice me.

I too will not be camping at Green Swamp. I plan to come in on from 471 on September 22. I would love to meet up with you or anyone else out here. I don't know how long I will seat till but it too probuably will be around 10AM. PM me and I can send you my cell number. I am itching to get in the woods. Hope we all get some monsters this year!!! I drive a tan Toyota Tundra.

Sorry fellows.
I couldn't reply yesterday for some unknown reason. I'm driving a White Explorer with a Hunting.net bumper sticker in the rear window...along with a bow hunting decal. I always come in on the Rockridge side and usually the first at the gate. Most cell phones are useless out there unless your calling from your tree.;)

Yeah, cell phone coverage is spotty, but I ocassoinaly get it out there. If I see your truck and yourself I will be sure to stop and say hi. Hope we slay them. Any guess as to the direction the wind will be traveling? I am guessing SE, but who knows.

Not sure about the wind Chris...I have3 spots..My best spot is very scary without a firearm..It's a 2 1/4 mile hike..Something in me tells me to go there...if I do I'll be on the river... However; I did see some nice deer on Powder Grade though last year and it's a much easier walk..I have another spot on Powder but it's a firearm only spot..too thick to bowhunt. The rain sounds good Reb...it's been dry out there and the plastic fletchings are waterproof.;)Rain makes for quieter walking through the swamp as well.

I can do with a little rain to cool things off. I am guessing it will be typical afternoon showers and I will only be hunting in the morning so I probably will miss the rain.

Depending on wind I may be hunting off Powder Grade too. I wonder how far apart we will be? Again depends on wind which the link Rebel provided says will be ESE which will not work for my Powder Grade spot.For my Powder Grade spot I need a west wind or any northern wind.

Boy I am ready to get in the woods. Should be a great morning.

Hey ..if my nerves are up to it..I plan to hit the river..My Powder spots are pretty well hidden and I could hit those in firearm season..I hunt the 1st 2 miles both right and left sides..I know the terrain there very good...I shot a spike and a hog there.


The river spot is on the Withalochoochee itself....super long hike.

i setup up my stand yesterday morning and went back to scout from it today and there was fresh droppings like 8 piles within 10 yds from it this morning

Yes sir...I have a strong son..I told him to keep his cell phone on...DARN!! I just realized..he won't be driving his sportscar in the GS.What was I thinking..no wonder he never returned my call.:D:D For the most part the game out there can easily be carried out. I'll be real happy to just see something. The GS is very difficult to hunt no matter how many signs one is seeing..It's much different than a private farm..the deer at the GS travel alot...Their noses are extremely keen....other hunters....plus there are other things in your mind like...watching out for gators , pigmys, diamond backs, moccassin, a gang of coyotes and even an angry boar .

Don't worry I will have fun, but yes I know GS is a hard place to hunt. I miss the property I hunted on in Indiana. It was easy to move around and lot so nice deer. Oh, well I live in sunny(hot) Florida now.

A get together would be great.We should let Rebel Hog head it up..He's the most experienced Florida hunter on here. PLus..he's one of those social kind of guys..:)Where ever he suggest meet..I can make it. I suggest Reb..starts a new thread and see how many would be interested in showing up...Since we are in hunting now I would suggest a lunch somewhere so it doesn't cut into the Sat. mornng hunt..but no matter what..you can count me in on showing up. I made the range master at Saddle Creek very upset at me..so I can not go back.I shoot my guns at the Tenoroc range..my bow in my back yard.

The Saddle Creek range closes at 5:00. I showed up at 4:00 and he said he wasn't allowing anymore shooting today. I reported him to his suppervisor and the stuff hit the fan. He let me have it the next timeI showed up..He was trying to start a physical fight but I kept being nice..that really ticked him off. However; I'll never go back. I had wanted really badly to shoot my muzzle loader in last year.I had drawn a 2 day permit for Kicco. I was ticked I couldn't shoot it.It was already shooting great I just wanted to make sure.

Count me in on a get together. That is if I can convince my wife that it is OK to meet people I met on the internet. See my dilema? If my wife told me she was doing that, I would tell her she was crazy. Any help would be appreciated.

I can relate..I met a man on here that looked mean but invited me to hunt on his farm in Missouri.I met him on the religious site so that helped alot..yet our beliefs were very contrary so I was very concerned. I drove the 16 hours ..and WOW!!!!! nowI understand the verse "Judge not" the man rolled out th ered carpet and made me feel extremely welcome.I shot my 8 point buck with in 30 minutes and never had a better time hunting.

Reb and I use to argue some...I was very reserved in meeting him.SUPER nice fellow...Many of us are professionals on our jobs and would never do something stupid to jeopardize it. I teach school.One mess up ..I'm done...even on a Sat. or Sunday.

A restaurant is a safe environment. ..especially when there will be others. If it's on a Sat. afternoon I could bring my wife as well.

I know that we all have differnt values so a lit cigerette ,beer or bad word isn't goingto freak me out.[8D]

I do feel very uncomfortable though hearing cursing in front of childrenor God's name in vain...and then I wouldn't go ballistic..I'd just be leaving earlier than normal.I do my best not to cause a scene.

I have am a member of some other internet forums that hold meetings. I have been to them and had a blast. I would worry if you were going to go some strange place with one person. But like Chuck said if we meet at a resturant with many other members it should be a safe.

It's not me that was worrying, it was my wife. If it is a get together with a group, she should be fine with that. It's just that whole "meeting with someone you met on the 'net" that can have a weird connotation. I hope to be there with you all!

I totally understand.as well ...but I find hiking 2 1/4 miles with a bow only a little nerve racking as well..yet I feel like that is my best odds.Hunting is trying to put the odds in your favor.I've never hunted this particuliar area before.I did hunt near it last year during turkey and was nearly stepped on by a deer..FEAKED me out..I could hear it walking up on me..it was dark..finally I shined my light in it's direction and a white tail was all that could be seen.LOL
