Ahh!
Boone County, one of my most memorable hunts was in Boone County, between Mud Lick and South Fork ... do you know where those roads are KYDeerHunter? The 1978 State Record was killed there, close to Doc Angel's place ... |
RE: Squirrel Huntin'
Ya I am pretty sure I know where it is. Mud Lick creek runs through the woods I hunt. I have seen some awesome bucks out here and I am gonna try and stick either an arrow or a bullet in one this year.
I never knew the state record was taken this close to home, thats pretty cool. Usually all the big bucks are taken in the western parts of KY. Here is that pic of that squirrel ![]() |
RE: Squirrel Huntin'
I live on Southfork. Wish more people allowed you to hunt. I only have 7 acres and take deer every year but would love to hunt Angels place, or over that way! Just to have some more land to move on to. I do have 170 acres behind me but theres quite a few others there also. It's always nice to see others from the area on here.

RE: Squirrel Huntin'
Hey BigBoyky,
I've hunted from behind Duck Head Inn all the way to Paints Lick Road. I use to hunt Peter Teremi's land that the Boone County Bow Club bought out twelve or thirteen years ago. It's adjacent to Doc Angel's place. Do you know Rick Peace or Lloyd Merida they both lived on South Fork Rd.? Merida had the Taxidermy and deer processing on South Fork for years, right there on the corner before you go across that little bridge. Rick Peace still lives in the house before you get to Merida's. I know that land so well I could hunt it blind-folded and never get lost. Do you own the land that the Steele's (from Ohio) sold in parcels years ago across from Merida's to the right? I read where the Wilson's just auctioned three big blocks of land that went all the way to Big Bone Dock. I hunted that too. ORIGINAL: bigboyky I live on Southfork. Wow!
That's quite a spectacle ... I've never saw one like that! Do you care if I use that picture on another forum, where I'm a moderator? Ruth Allen used to own most of the land on Mud Lick before you get to Doc Angel's place. Do you know Josh Hunt? He lives on Mud Lick, I think he is the last house before you get to Angel's ... and the power line. It's funny how a person can develop a sentimental attachment to land ... the land I first learned to hunt on in the early seventies. Man, I'm feelin' old all of a sudden. It sure is cool talkin' to some guys who are familiar with the land! Brings back a lot of fond memories. The 1978 State Record was broken by my buddy Smitty, in the year 2000.He shot it in Pendleton, County... I posted a picture of it. ORIGINAL: KYDeerHunter03 Ya I am pretty sure I know where it is. RE: Squirrel Huntin'
204 and 3/8ths, it's the third largest typical of all time. The world record is 213 and 5/8ths, I believe they call it the Hanson Buck.
I'm posting a picture of it hanging in his house. Thanks for letting me use the picture. ![]() |

Took my son and his friend today and we had a blast. We saw 3 and shot 0. We found turkey feathers and dust bowels and did a little deer tracking.

Hey 2poppa It turns out my dad went to school with your friend that shot that big deer. Its a small world..:)
|
RE: Squirrel Huntin'
Went huntin' once. Heard some, saw none. Better luck next time. However, it's good just to be able to get out to hunt. Never thought I would be able to again. Always be thankful for what you have and are able to do. Life is too short and unpredictable to take for granted. Have a safe and fun hunting season.
